The city was originally named Minner Switch. There was a switch on the Iron Mountain Railroad that was put there to service the Mill which was owned by a Mr. Minner. The town's name was shortened to Miner sometime in the early part of the 20th century, probably around 1920 when the railroad put up a new sign at the switch and had misspelled the name leaving out one of the N's. Census records earlier than 1910 refer to the area as Minner Switch and the local newspaper in Sikeston, "The Sikeston Herald" refers to the area as Minner Switch. Death certificates for one of my aunts and one of my uncles refer to the cemetery where they were buried as Minner Switch. Both died in the teens. This is widely known and accounts of the railroads misspelling the name are referred to in "History of Scott County" copy right Scott County Historical Society. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.35.237.107 (talk) 19:19, 19 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
