Style, grammar, everything![edit]

This article has clearly been written by a French-speaking person who doesn't speak English perfectly, and carries trademark mistakes, but also many POV statements, and it's definitely not an encyclopedic article. I fixed the few obvious grammar errors I found, which mostly had to do with using present instead of past tense and not ordering phrases as a native English speaker would. I don't think Dollvalley's comment was stupid, because if one does not have time or interest oneself, it's often a good idea to at least note what needs to be done so that others can pick up on it. (That's how collaboration is supposed to work, isn't it?) His comment though is a bit harsh and KSokc's even harsher. I hope the native French speaker(s) who worked on this project aren't discouraged from contributing further writing and references. I came to this page due to watching Mathieu's stirring rendition of La Marseillaise on YouTube, and the article satisfied my curiosity. I would imagine the reference material on her would be more accessible to a native French speaker. Fixing minor grammar mistakes is editing as opposed to research and writing and something those of us who are native English speakers should gladly do for those who can easily gather references that are in French. Tone, Puffery[edit]

These two banners were added to the page, without comment. As such, I will no longer add or subtract from the article, as it will take others to know how to solve the banners concerns. Obviously the banners mean the article is without merit, but what should replace it will have to be someone with a different style, and better English skills. Stefan, please read my comments in the above section, I hope you find them to be encouraging of your efforts and that you will add to the article. I'm confused though about why your edits aren't appearing under your user name and encourage you also to sign your posts in the discussions by typing the four tilde characters at the end of your posts. Abilene Disc[edit]

This is a publishing label for the DVD released in 2005. As far as I can tell, it was never used for anything else. It is listed on the Web site, but is more or less used as a company name. It is registered to Monique Mathieu in France as "Edition d'enregistrements sonores" or Publishing of Sound Recordings. To equate this to a "recording label" like Barclay, etc, is an error. There is no record pressing, marketing, production, or distribution at Abilene Disc. Generally, the recording label is also the publishing label, but in the case of the DVD recording of Mireille at the Olympia, Monique was able to create a vehicle for distributing royalties. It is complex, but if you read all the lawyer mumbo-jumbo at the end of the DVD as it scrolls by it will make more sense. K5okc (talk) 07:18, 8 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Web Site[edit]

An user complained that the Web site never said there was going to be a concert in Japan. Unless you save the contents of the web site every day, there is no way this can be proven false or true. For the record, her Web site had Japan as a prominent concert venue for a long time. Then it disappeared, along with the Israel concert. The web site is poorly run, and the Bio and photo's are still the same snapshot from 2005 when she was 59. Neither Monique, nor Mireille are tech savvy. Entertainer[edit]

If a person only sings, you can call them a singer. If a person acts in skits, dresses in costume, dances, and also sings, you can call them an entertainer. Her being a singer is in no way on a par with her being a comic actress. That is why it is inappropriate to say, in the lead-in to the article, that she is a "singer and comic actress". Sibling[edit]

This section is really not needed in any encyclopedia. Should we list her Goldfish or Rabbits names as well? The birth dates are highly suspect, and the book referenced should list a page number. I know Monique's birthday is listed as 8 Jul on her various company registrations (google shows it), so if one date is wrong, I suspect they are all bogus. I propose the section be deleted. It's quite standard for siblings to be mentioned, as with Encyclopedia Britannica and other reference works. The names and dates were referenced. As to the birth date, it depends on the sourcing for the book referenced. Different sources often come come up with varying birth dates for celebrities. It's worth exploring. Public records are not allowed to be used or referenced in WP articles - documents such as company records, trial transcripts, birth or marriage certs etc. It can be hard to ultimately establish an actual birth date if the subject does not publicly state it. Are you suggesting that the birth date currently given should be removed? Why do you suspect that the birth date is wrong. Best wishes Span (talk) 16:58, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The reference used was from the first paragraph, but my library no longer has that book, so I can't verify that it even included birth dates of siblings. The names were also off a bit. On her web page she lists her siblings as: "Monique, Christiane, Marie-France, Réjane, Régis et Guy (les jumeaux), Roger, Jean-Pierre, Rémy, Simone, Philippe, Béatrice et enfin Vincent", but doesn't include dates. I think "Simone" goes by "Sophie" and is "Sophie-Simone". Personally, I've never seen any dates published, so it would be valuable to have a published reference. Ruby Disc[edit]

The singer is on stage until the 27th of November 2005 at the Olympia Music Hall, where she celebrates a forty year career.

Communists in power?[edit]

The final lyric: "When I think of all I have given France... and she has forgotten me" was truly how the singer felt as she was made a caricature by the Communists in power.

Unencyclopaedic tone[edit]

The tone of this article is unencyclopaedic. It's riddled with trivial details, puffery and non sequiturs. Just a few examples:

- "Parisians at the studio made fun of her Provençal accent, and her dyslexia scrambled words. For example, her sister and current manager Monique, is called "Matite" because Mathieu could not pronounce "petite" as a child." Nowhere is it explained what the word "petite" has to do with anything, and it feels like the wrong place in the article to give this example.

- "Mathieu and Lemaire are interviewed separately, both the same diminutive height."

- "She has a fantastic memory"
