Missile turret?[edit]

Where does the name for this article come from? I have read a fair deal on the topic, but I've never run into the word missile turret before. As far as naval launchers are concerned I haven't found any credible sources that call them turrets but in the case of land vehicles the term is quite widely used - [1] [2] [3]. Google search for the phrase is hard because it is also very widely used in the gaming and sci-fi field. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:23, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gaming and SF seem like unhelpful sources for classification of IRL objects by commonly-known and used terms. The term should certainly be missile 'launcher', and not 'turret'. I approve of 'trainable missile launcher' and feel that such a topic should properly be a subsection of a larger article about missile launchers in general. The missile launcher, in all of its various forms, is certaily a noteworthy piece of equipment in concept and helps to define the later 20th Century's approach to warfare in general.

Definitely notable and sad to see things like VLS and TELs, or even swing-arm launchers only ever addressed under their specific missiles, when to the layperson of the late 20th C they were certainly all just 'missile launchers'.
