Site identifies certain American wines as Missouri wines, there is a difference. Zeltain (talk) 19:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(non-admin closure) The result of this discussion was procedural close. Parallel discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of wineries in Missouri, opened at 22:54, 8 November 2021‎. Per WP:ATD-M, merging is an alternate to deletion, and if that is the outcome, then the same procedures of a regular merge discussion are carried out per WP:MERGE#Merger as a result of a deletion discussion. Wikipedia is not a WP:DIRECTORY of non-notable local businesses. Per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of wineries in Ohio this is better merged to the main article with only notable locations. Reywas92Talk 17:43, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Correct problems, don't merge[edit]

The problem is not that these lists should not exist, but rather than they should not link to the winery websites and should instead have third-party references. Take List of wineries in New Mexico as an example. Every winery without an article has a citation to a newspaper review of a wine or the winery. This is sufficient to establish notability in a list, they don't have to be notable enough for a standalone article to be included in the list. This was established in the AfD discussion for that list.

Note, I personally don't like the table format for this, in a strange way it actually encourages expansion. Better to break the list into recognized subregions within the state. Skyerise (talk) 17:41, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The notable topic is Missouri wine, and significant wineries should be discussed there. Wikipedia does not need to list the names of non-notable local businesses even if they're listed in a guide or directory of wineries in the region. Reywas92Talk 23:22, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If they are sourced, they are notable enough to be listed. This is a standard criteria for list articles. Skyerise (talk) 23:50, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is not true. One could just as easily source a list of restaurants or any list of other local businesses, but that does not mean we have to include the names of non-notable ones without articles. If these are sourced to this directory advertising the state's winemaking companies, that should just be directly linked from Missouri wine. Reywas92Talk 17:55, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that this meets WP:NLIST, so I'd be fine to merge the two articles and carry over only the significant wineries. — Mikehawk10 (talk) 06:00, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mikehawk10: I disagree. I've just added two books about Missouri wineries to the further reading section. Wineries in Missouri is definitely a notable topic and is covered as such. Skyerise (talk) 17:46, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This still doesn't mean we need separate articles, one about the wine and one listing non-notable places that make it. Reywas92Talk 17:55, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Don’t merge I see a number of other state winery list. This should be dealt with as a topic instead of singling this one out individually. I think the sourcing problem can be easily corrected. Grey Wanderer (talk) 19:59, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
