Subject is notable, I think, although most of the web sources I found are behind a paywall. I went ahead and created a temp stub subpage. I did copy the infobox from the original copyvio page but I think that part's ok. Rees11 (talk) 16:57, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

88s vs 88's[edit]

The apostrophe is usually considered incorrect as far as I can tell. Chicago Manual of Style says leave it out (6.9: "numbers... form the plural by adding s alone"). WP MOS doesn't say exactly, but it does say "Acronyms and initialisms, like other nouns, become plurals by adding -s or -es" and "Decades contain no apostrophe (the 1980s, not the 1980's)." The apostrophe is left out in the stories from mainstream news sources like the San Francisco Chronicle. Allmusic sometimes uses it, sometimes not.

However, there is the question of whether we should use the "correct" form or the form that is preferred by Woods. WP is a bit ambiguous on this but I certainly sympathize with this argument. The question then becomes what does Mitch prefer.

The album covers do include the apostrophe. Mitch's biography on his own web site ([1]) leaves it out four times but then uses it once. His calendar and events listings leave it out, and his own road blog, the one part of his web site that we can be pretty sure he wrote, also leaves it out. His press kit, gig contract, and photo gallery include it.

From this I conclude that either Mitch doesn't care, or maybe he leaves it out and his staff include it. In any case since he's inconsistent I'm inclined to go with the "correct" usage. Rees11 (talk) 16:56, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
