Kate Bush's version[edit]

Kate Bush's version of this song is not sean nós, it is accompanied and sung in a different manner than sean nós songs.Sean nós is traditionally unaccompanied and even modern fusions that use instruments are very different to what we hear on the Kate Bush version, in terms of the vocal style. Category: rebel music?[edit]

Quote "Mná na hÉireann is usually placed in the category of Irish rebel music[citation needed]. It honours the memory of the women dedicated to Ireland[citation needed], specifically the Irish nationalist movement.[citation needed]". This is highly unlikely to be accurate because the words are about philandering and drunkenness and it ends with the poet deciding he needs to give up the drink. Not only that but he describes an ugly brute "with no English" as having one of the women. So that cannot be in any way interpreted as Britain holding Ireland. The poem is a bit of a bawdy jeu d'esprit. The course of the poem is by way of anaphora repeating "Tá ban in Éireann..." (There is a woman in Ireland [who - this, that and a lot of the other]. Carrickedmond[edit]

Given that O Durnin lived for a large portion of his early life in Carrickedmond in Co. Louth, would it not be sensible to derive that this is the place referred to in the quote "Bhí bean ar thaobh cnoic i gCarraig Éamoinn a níodh gáire ag ól" as opposed to the place of the same name in Co.
