Article title: Apostrophe or no?[edit]

@Finetooth: I was wondering whether you could provide some input on whether the title of this article should include an apostrophe. (I ask because Guild's Lake, which you created a while back, faces a similar question.) Both GNIS and Oregon Geographic Names use "Mocks Bottom", without an apostrophe. Several older Oregonian articles I've come across use "Mock's Bottom" or "Mock's bottom".^[1] Historian E. Kimbark MacColl includes the apostrophe,^[2] as do the recent St. Johns Review articles I've cited in the draft. More sources seem to opt for using the apostrophe. But do you think GNIS and Oregon Geographic Names should be accorded more weight because they're specifically focused on feature names? In the case of the Guild's Lake article, there's a stronger reason to ignore GNIS and OGN, as the authors of the Oregon Historical Quarterly article cited there specifically advocate the usage of "Guild's Lake". I haven't come across any sources that specifically argue for the usage of "Mock's Bottom", however. What are your thoughts? Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 00:23, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Lord Bolingbroke: I've been out of touch and just noticed this note from you. I think your addition of a second note to Guild's Lake is fine and that something similar would be fine here as well. Assuming you choose Mock's Bottom, the version with the apostrophe, you'll want to create a redirect for people who search for Mocks Bottom without the apostrophe. Mock's Crest?[edit]

@Lord Bolingbroke: Curious, do you think there should be an article for Mock's Crest as well? ---Another Believer _(Talk) 15:38, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: I don't think so. Mock's Crest is only the small section of bluff that overlooks Mock's Bottom. The larger bluff that extends from the St. Johns Bridge to the Fremont Bridge the City of Portland terms the "Willamette Escarpment". I'm drafting an article on the Willamette Escarpment at User:Lord Bolingbroke/sandbox2, and I think it would make more sense to redirect Mock's Crest to that article once it is moved to mainspace. If you find sources specifically about Mock's Crest I'd love to have them, but I just don't think there's enough coverage for that small section of the bluff to warrant a separate article. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 15:49, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: Thanks for sharing these photos. The second one, in particular, provides a good view of the industrial park. For a reader who is unfamiliar with Mock's Bottom, it would be ideal to show the bluff as well as the lowland. Would it be possible to get a better perspective from Waud Bluff perhaps? The City of Portland Archives has some good aerial photographs—such as A2005-005.1407.3, A2005-001.640, and A1999-004.1130—but these are copyrighted, unfortunately. – Lord Bolingbroke (talk) 06:25, 14 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
