Not the first multi-computer on-line game[edit]

Even if we stick to home computers, Comm-Bat from Adventure International precedes this. --205.158.58.226 (talk) 22:52, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comm-Bat wasn't real-time[edit]

Perhaps splitting hairs, but Comm-Bat wasn't real-time, and it was text based. I'm not sure that the use of the word 'online' is correct in describing Modem Wars, however, since it's point to point serial and not over a network or bbs. Disoculated (talk) 18:26, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First modem game from a major publisher or not?[edit]

I'm not 100% sure..Flight Simulator II for the Amiga and Atari ST (also released in 1986) had computer-to-computer modem play. The multiplayer code was written by Mike Kulas and Chris Green (me). SubLOGIC (a significant publisher at the time, was also the developer of microsoft flight simulator) even went as far as to manufacture weird "easy-to-use" null modem cables for direct connection. Guess it's a matter of what month each of them shipped :-)

I think flight simulator II was almost certainly the first mass-market real time 3d game with modem play at least.
