Its sad that a writer of her stature has an article shorter than a minor fictional TV character. Its also sad that the majority of this article is about her relationship with her brother. Her novels are truly great works.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:51, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Is Mona Simpson a pseudonym?

I don't see any mention of how novelist Mona Simpson comes by that name, and it would be good to have one. How bizarre is it that cartoon character Homer Simpson's mother is named Mona Simpson, that Richard Appel is a writer for the Simpson's, and that the novelist is the sister of Apple's founder Steve Jobs? - Nunh-huh 02:09, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Apparently she took the name of her mother's next husband (Simpson). - chumleyk

The publication of this article resulted in so many downloads and so many people trying to contact Giese that the Green Bay Press Gazette removed it permanently from their site. Possibly as the result of a legal request. But it was already all over the internet and has been ever since it was published in 2005.Wallnut (talk) 21:31, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, thats very interesting, and the article may very well qualify as a reliable source, but posting an entire copyrighted news article, even on the talk page of an article here, is a violation of copyright. If someone wants to use this as a source for the article on Ms. Simpson, cool, but we want to avoid using the talk page to write an alternate biography. Change to lead paragraph

I changed the lead paragraph so that it no longer says, "Mona Simpson is a novelist, essayist, and sister of Steve Jobs." As though being the sister of Steve Jobs were her job! I think it's significant enough that it should go in the lead paragraph, but I at least moved it so that it's the last item. Leoniceno (talk) 03:50, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Changes to Lede and article

Simpson is an award-winning author in her own right, and did not learn of her biological relationship with Jobs until she was nearly 30 years old. Their relationship belongs in the body of the article, as his relationship with her is treated in his article; it is not the most important thing about her. I agree that this article should focus on her and her work - the critical reception of her works needs to be included. I moved the lengthy quote about how Jobs had been affected by their relationship to his article, where it belongs.Parkwells (talk) 16:13, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Mona Simpson (novelist) → Mona Simpson – The author is the clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the name "Mona Simpson". Mona Simpson (novelist) was viewed 36966 times in January 2012, compared to only 6286 for Mona Simpson (The Simpsons), the only other article of the title. The novelist has gotten many more page views than the Simpsons character (who is named for her) as far back as I checked. In addition, "Mona Simpson"+writer gets me 3,640 hits on Google Books and over 400 on Google News archives, compared to only 47 and 30, respectively, for "Mona Simpson"+"The Simpsons"; many of those are actually sources on the writer, mentioning that the Simpsons character is named for her. Also, for what it's worth, almost every incoming link to the Mona Simpson disambig page intends the writer.[1] The article on the Simpsons character can easily be disambiguated with a hat note.Cúchullain ^t/c 21:21, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
