Is a glass plate a film?[edit]

We say that Adams used a view camera with panchromatic glass plates, but we refer in several places to 'film'. I think film indicates a flexible substrate, so it is not accurate to describe a glass plate negative as 'film'. This seems to be supported by Photographic film. Or is the use of 'film' for glass plate negatives an established usage? I propose to change 'film' to 'glass plate' or 'photographic emulsion'. Comments please.
