"Eastern" centric?[edit]

In the body of the article, it says:

"The first westerner to ascend the mountain"

Seems a little off. If not, where is the "Western" that these peoples live? (and as it refers collectively to those peoples it is a proper noun?)

Seems like 2 options:

The first non-Japanese to ascend the mountain
The first climber from outside Japan to ascend the mountain

There is the issue of other climbers who might not be "Westerners" that were also not Japanese (Javanese, Chinese, African, Australasian, etc.), but having "Westerner" in there is a little either Japan-centric, or at worst racist!

I am probably a "Westerner" by that definition - but as direction is relative, a "Westerner" to me is from Ireland, the USA/Canada, Central America, Cuba, Barbados, Mexico etc. Probably NOT what the OP had in mind :)

Obviously there is also the classic "East v West" (East Europe (USSR)/Russia(USSR) v. USA/West Europe) and the old "Westerner" being someone who is not Asian. These are old-world definitions - especially the non-Asian one which comes from the Romans and Greeks who believed that Africa Europe and Asia was all there is - and IMHO really do not belong in an encyclopaedia.

Secondly, why is there "Mount Nokogiri (Akaishi)"?

Is this the same mountain?
How come there is nothing to tell us what the relationship between them is?
Is one the left peak and one the right (of Akaishi)?
