Fourth or Fifth Highest Peak?[edit]

Why is this article called .... (California)...?[edit]

In my perception, it is the only mountain in the world called 'Mount Baden-Powell', so why does it need an extra '(California)' designation in the title? I propose that this article be moved to simply Mount Baden-Powell. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 21:24, 13 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

agree-I did remove the parenthesis per WP:MoS, but if there is not another, "California" should be removed entirely. Chris 22:15, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was just going to bring this up. Did a bit of search and cannot find any other Mount Baden-Powell. --Gadget850 ( Ed) 22:57, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First ascent[edit]

I'm afraid I don't have anything to contribute to this page, except the observation that if the quoted dedication speech was given on the summit of Mt Baden-Powell, as it seems to have been, in 1931, the first ascent could not have been by Weldon Heald in 1933. Weldon Heald is remembered for becoming the first person to ascend one hundred Southern California mountain summits of more than 5,000' elevation. Perhaps his first ascent of Baden-Powell was in 1933. In any case, the San Gabriel Mountains were crawling with weekend explorers from the late nineteenth century. Technical stuff[edit]

  1. I changed the elevation from NGVD 29 to NAVD 88 and provided a citation.
  2. Cleanup a number of other technical details.
  3. Quotations usually should not include links. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Quotations. Somebody needs to look a this. I didn't change anything.
  4. The quoted material might be still copyrighted. See Public domain#Expiration. There needs to be a citation showing that they are public domain.
  5. I changed the caption for the map in the gallery. I removed "Park service". I doubt the trail is maintained by the National Park Service. It could be part of the Pacific Crest Trail. Someone needs to check that out and it should be referred to in the section of the article that talks about the trail.
