Need update on Ballance statue vandalism[edit]

Have heard from Laurel Stowell of the Wanganui Chronicle who (quote) “was talking to Alec Waugh, the district police commander here in the early 1990s, yesterday. He says the head and hand of the statue were “removed” on 21 Dec 1994 – in the year before the occupation. The rest of the statue was broken during the occupation.” Obviously we need a citation to back this up, perhaps a Chronicle story reporting this from Dec 21, 1994. Until then, I've change the entry to read “vandalised”, as that did happen during the protests, until someone can write a more detailed subsection on the John Ballance statue damage. Kia ora Giantflightlessbirds, as a former resident of this town, you might appreciate a somewhat expanded article. Schwede66 22:20, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is much improved! There's still scope to write entire articles about the Battle of Moutoa, and about the 1994 occupation, but someone else will have to tackle those. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 09:04, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
