Studio Album[edit]

This release is definitely not a greatest hits album. Apart from one track it consists of re-recordings by Jeff Lynne of singles released by ELO, and the album seems to be listed as an ELO album rather than a Jeff Lynne album (and as Jeff Lynne owns the "ELO" name this release should be regarded as an ELO album).

A similar example is Suzanne Vega's Close-Up series of four acoustic albums which again are re-recordings of previously released tracks, and these are not considered to be compilation albums.

I personally regard this as a hybrid Jeff Lynne/ELO album, but the one thing it is not is a Greatest Hits album. memphisto 12:49, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A Jeff Lynne album[edit]

I have now had a chance to examine the artwork for this release and it states "All songs written, produced and performed by Jeff Lynne". Nowhere in the artwork is the album credited to ELO, infact the only ELO references are the spaceship cover art and a couple of ELO logos. So, this album should be be listed as a Jeff Lynne studio album of ELO covers. memphisto 11:30, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The CD is in the car so I can't check at the moment, but it hadn't occurred to me that this wasn't labelled as ELO. I just checked the record label's official website (http://www.frontiers.it/album/5067/), which states the artist name as ELO (rather than Lynne). ELO effectively is Jeff Lynne (and vice-versa); I see them as one and the same. matt (talk) 11:36, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if Epic/Jet still have some hold over the use of the ELO name as a recording entity; and why is the album named as if it was a compilation album? Only the marketing department/lawyers will know. memphisto 12:55, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
