The Charity Navigator ratings are difficult to understand without context. A potentially unintentional bias appears, simply because most readers will not understand the relative gravity of Charity Navigator ratings. In this example, a rating of 47.88, which reflects "slightly less than half of all dollars donated go to fund the programs of the Foundation" reads as a clear criticism.

As it turns out, the rating is also out of date. The current rating is much worse. This alone seems like a good reason to remove the rating.

If these ratings are to be included in the descriptions of charities, they ought to be fairly and universally applied, and applied with an eye toward dispelling the bias. Universal application is probably impractical, given the sheer number of charities and the probable lack of interest in making this sort of update (not all page administrators would see the same value in the ratings). Dispelling bias would probably be best handled by adding context, which might look like "For comparison, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has a rating of 23.73, while the National Organization for Women (NOW) has a rating of 54.49." Note that two examples are given, one with a higher and one with a lower rating. Both are well known and well respected organizations. --70.89.118.121 (talk) 19:05, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
