GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose, spelling, and grammar): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
    Some suggestions:
  • the canon-lawyer link to faqih
  • larger neighbours, Castile and Marinid Morocco I would perhaps add "the Christian kingdom of Castile..." to give a clearer context to the uninitiated
  • his father (also named Muhammad) I would suggest to link the elder Muhammad here, and simply introduce him as "his father, Muhammad I,..." the regnal number is used in the article later on to avoid confusion either way, so better to establish that distinction right from the start. Ditto for the sizeable independent state in the south of Spain, essentialy this repeats the information of the "Background" section.
    • Used regnal number for Muhammad I. Any suggestion for the "sizeable independent state" part? I agree it overlaps a little bit, but IMHO it's okay it's warranted because the "early life" part introduces his family, while the background is for the wider geopolitical situation. HaEr48 (talk) 08:50, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • Hmmm, how about "In 1232, his father Muhammad I established the independence of the town, and it later grew to a sizeable independent state in the south of Spain, centered on Granada after the loss of Arjona in 1244. The Emirate of Granada became the last independent Muslim state in the Iberian peninsula." Constantine 21:35, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • the Castile to the north either simply "Castile" or "the Christian kingdom of Castile"
    • Updated to "the Christian kingdom of Castile". Or do you think the "to the north" part is unnecessary too? HaEr48 (talk) 08:50, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • prevent it from raiding Castile repeat of "Castile" in the same sentence, avoid it if you can
  • against the Christian expansion there add a link to the Reconquista here, e.g. "the Christian expansion there, known as the Reconquista..."
  • link Almohad in the first occurrence
  • pro-Granadan troops what is the difference between "pro-Granadan troops" and "Granadan troops"?
    • Shortened to just Granadan troops HaEr48 (talk) 08:50, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strait of Gibraltar, Algeciras, Córdoba, Ronda are overlinked
  • Murcia would go to Aragon and Andalusia to Granada I suggest relinking Murcia to Kingdom of Murcia, and Andalusia perhaps to Four Kingdoms of Andalusia, rather than the modern political entities.
  • Link ghazis
  • named after Zenata explain what this is
    • not yet, will do after finding the source HaEr48 (talk) 08:50, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Genoa and Pisa link to the respective republics
  1. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (reference section): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR): d (copyvio and plagiarism):
I will do a spotcheck on copyvio later
  2. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
    Questions/suggestions:
  • Do we know why precisely he received the sobriquet "Faqih"? Was he particularly distinguished in fiqh or...?
    • not yet. Many source hints that he was well-learned in religious matters, but haven't found any explicit assertion that this was the reason for thr nickname. I will keep looking HaEr48 (talk) 08:50, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • I've found an explanation in a book I have, which seems to cover it, and added it to the text (I also moved the part about the sobriquet to the Evaluation section as it seemed more appropriate). Constantine 21:35, 23 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
        • Thank you, your addition looks good. I wish I had access to the Carrasco Manchado source. I am working on a few Nasrid king biographies and it sounds very relevant. HaEr48 (talk) 04:07, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • ports on the Strait of Gibraltar, such as Algeciras and Gibraltar, I suggest adding: "that controlled passage to and from the North African coast", or analogous, to make their strategic importance explicit.
  • ended up rebelling against their masters any clues/links as to why? With "their masters" I assume you mean Alfonso? I would spell it out explicitly.
  • On the tribute paid in general, if the information is available, it would be useful to point out what proportion of the overall budget of Castile and/or Granada that represented.
    • Will need to look this up in the sources HaEr48 (talk) 08:50, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • I found sources that say it's half of Granada's revenue. It's also an important income for Castile but I haven't found sources that mention a specific percentage. I added the info to the text. HaEr48 (talk) 04:07, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • A few references are out of numerical order: [18][16], [23][10], [24][23], [34][10], [50][45]
  1. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  2. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  3. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free content have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
The maps are fine, although if you intend to move this for a nomination for A-class or FA, "Reino de Granada.svg" would definitely need a more suitable source.
  4. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

@HaEr48: Hi, I've completed a first pass through the article. My comments are above. I will definitely make another pass when I have my own sources at hand later this week. Cheers, Constantine 09:36, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Cplakidas: Thanks for your review. Unfortunately you've caught me during a break with limited internet access. I hope I will be able to respond after 1-2 weeks from now. I hope that's okay? HaEr48 (talk) 21:29, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Cplakidas: Thanks for your patience. I've addressed most of your feedback above. There are some unaddressed ones (I've marked them with red comments), mostly because they need more research. I'll get at them in the next few days. In the mean time feel free to add more feedback or review my changes so far. HaEr48 (talk) 02:40, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Cplakidas, I've addressed the remaining comments. Let me know if you have more feedback or follow-up. HaEr48 (talk) 04:07, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @HaEr48: Looks good to me. I have no further comments, at least not at the GA stage. Well done. If you need access to my sources (I have a couple of Spanish-language books on al-Andalus, apart from a copy of Kennedy) for other articles, feel free to ping me. Cheers, Constantine 07:31, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
