Some proposed changes[edit]

I am currently employed at the Museum of English Rural Life, and much of the information on this page is either outdated or insufficient. Apologies if this isn't correctly formatted - it's my first time! I would also welcome feedback on what would be more helpful to include on this page.

Introduction
First sentence change abbreviation to (The MERL)

Change 'is a museum' to 'is a museum, library and archive'[1]

Add: 'It is an accredited museum and accredited archive as recognised by Arts Council England and the National Archives'.[2][3]

Add: The Museum of English Rural Life and Reading Museum together form an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, with funding of £1million from April 2018 to April 2022.[4]

History of the Museum and site
Add sentence: 'The Museum underwent a period of redevelopment from 2013-2016, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Wellcome Trust, and the University of Reading.[5] The Museum officially reopened on 22 October 2016 with ten new galleries, including a gallery dedicated to Ladybird Books artwork held by the University of Reading Special Collections.'[6]

Collections
Change to:

- The Museum holds over 25,000 objects, almost all of which are on display, and which provide a material record of rural England covering 1750 to the present day.[7] It cares for significant collections of smocks and wagons, and has a wide range of other holdings including livestock portraiture,[8] representations of rural life, agricultural hand tools, ploughs[9] and farm machinery, shepherding equipment, garden tools, baskets,[10] saddlery, and many other heritage craft items and tools. Larger objects include wall hangings designed by artist Michael O'Connell for the Festival of Britain,[11] a 'Series I' Land Rover,[12] a threshing machine,[13] a portable steam engine,[14] and an early kerosene tractor.[15]

- The library holds over 50,000 volumes, the majority of which are available for browsing. It comprises the most comprehensive collection of books, journals, and pamphlets related to rural Britain, the countryside and the history of British agriculture in the country.[16]

- The archives cover more than 4.5 kilometres of shelving and hold records from the thirteenth to the twenty-first century. These diverse materials range from papers of individual farms and large estates through institutional archives of major countryside organisations to the trade records of agricultural firms. There are also hundreds of hours of historic film and over 1 million photographs, including material from prominent agricultural publications and organisations as well as commercial photographers.[17][18]

Suggestions[edit]

  1. Having "the" in the name of the museum does not require it in the title of the article. (See the Louvre museum article for example.)
  2. It would be helpful if you could place the citations next to the text which they verify. You have them placed at the end of sections, but WP:INTEGRITY would have us placing them as close as possible to the information which they verify. Otherwise, large portions of the text are unreferenced.
  3. Information on the museums hours of operation won't be added to the article, per WP:NOTDIRECTORY
  4. When these changes have been made to your draft, please change the edit request template to read from request edit|A to request edit|R

Reply quotebox with inserted reviewer decisions and feedback 13-FEB-2018[edit]

Below you will see where text from your request has been quoted and individual decisions, either accepting or declining the proposals, have been inserted underneath each major proposal. Additional feedback is provided in the notes section at the bottom of the quotebox. Please note the following:

  1. The pictures section was not addressed in the reply quotebox below, but the pictures themselves were added to the article.
  2. One section of text below requires feedback from you before implementation. Kindly change the request template parameter back to R when this information is ready.
  3. Additional parameters for the museum infobox template, including areas for names of administrative staff, director, curator, number of visitors, galleries, collections, the nearest public transport and even the nearest carpark (including the price, if any, for parking) are all currently empty. As these parameters and many more are available to be used, the museum should take advantage of them. For a full listing of the parameters, check the museum infobox template page. Please feel free to submit an edit request for any of these parameters which you would like filled out.
