Șehit Asteğmen Mustafa Fehmi Kubilay[edit]

Șehit Mustafa Asteĝmen was not a "reserve warrant officer". There was not, nor is, such a rank in the Turkish Armed Forces. See: Modern equipment of the Turkish Land Forces or other related pages here at WP about NATO forces officer's ranks. His modern day equivalent NATO rank would be OF (D). He was at the time on national service, not in the reserves. Asteğmen is a sort of "Third Lieutenant", as I would describe the rank. An Asteğmen would rank below a U.S. Army "Second Lieutenant" (2LT, NATO OF 1). I served in U.S. Army and I have family in Menemen. I have visited the Kubilay monument several times with my brothers-in-law, who were in the Turkish army at the time, or veterans thereof. One brother-in-law has two martyred mates buried there, and we have visited their graves.

Therefore I am changing "reserve warrant officer" to "Lieutenant (Turkish: Asteğmen)" , which I belive to be more accurate. Furthermore, "Lieutenant" is used in the main article. Önce VatanTjlynnjr (talk) 08:22, 25 April 2014 (UTC).[reply]

NPOV ?[edit]

In the biography section the statement "He became a secular martyr for Atatürk's anti-Islamist dictatorship" should be discussed here. Önce Vatan Tjlynnjr (talk) 10:23, 25 April 2014 (UTC).[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

Source cited gives Izmir as his birthplace. Article at Turkish WP gives Kozan (near Adana) as birthplace, but has no references. So I changed it to Izmir. I will continue research on this. Turkish articles on Kubilay and Incident are better and more detailed. Önce VatanTjlynnjr (talk) 10:55, 25 April 2014 (UTC).[reply]

Also Turkish WP gives his status then as reserve officer (yedek subay) but there is no reference. Önce Vatan Tjlynnjr (talk) 11:03, 25 April 2014 (UTC).[reply]
I am changing Kubilays birthplace back to Kozan, Adana. This conforms with all other language versions here on Wiki. City of Menemen says he was born in Kozan, Adana as well. The only source that gives Izmir as his birthplace is: Who is Who - Mustafa Fehmi Kubilay [1] Yaşa Varol Harbiye Tjlynnjr (talk) 23:46, 21 June 2014 (UTC) .[reply]

Atatürk cursed Menemen[edit]

During my many family visits to Menemen I was told several times that Atatűrk cursed Menemen because of this incident. He is purported to have said words to the effect of "this town will never amount to anything" and "may Almighty God damn this town". This story was told to me by my brothers in law. Concerning edits of 26 June 2014[edit]

While I applaud the patriotism and zeal of User:Cet53 I propose the revert of these edits for the following reasons:

  • English is poor.
  • Misspellings in Turkish.
  • Similar content is already at Menemen Incident.
  • The edit and edit summary are inflammatory and will provoke edit warring.
  • I have compared the Turkish articles on Mustafa Fehmi Kubilay [2] and Menemen Incident [3] and I do not see what what User:Cet53 sees per the edit summary. However, I may have missed it.

I cannot find Kullanıcı:Cet53 at Turkish Wikipedia. Please respond here. Her Şey Vatan İçin Tjlynnjr (talk) 13:38, 27 June 2014 (UTC) .[reply]

There has been no comment since 27 June 2014, so I will now do the revert. Her Şey Vatan İçin Tjlynnjr (talk) 19:47, 27 July 2014 (UTC) .[reply]

Wooden bullets ?[edit]

In this article there is a mention of the use of wooden bullets by the Turkish soldiers. Sounds unusual, so here is some information:
