Muscle Brook[edit]

Parking this historical quote here for future use. Note Musclebrook as opposed to Muswellbrook.

"MUSCLEBROOK. —This town is situated at the junction of a small stream, known as the Muscle Brook, with the Hunter River, and is rapidly increasing in importance. The adjoining country is generally of a fertile character ; large arms of it are under cultivation. Wheat, maize, oats, barley, millet, tobacco, and potatoes, are among the chief productions. The grape is found to grow readily. The rainfall amounts to about 21 inches annually. In summer, the climate is hot, and occasionally oppressive, reaching 100° Fahr., but during the greater part of the year, it is cool and pleasant. This town contains a number of fine substantial buildings. Population, 1,074."
