மருத்துவர் முத்துலட்சுமி ரெட்டி புதுக்கோட்டைக்காரர். அவர் தந்தையார் திரு.தட்சிணாமூர்த்தி பிள்ளை. தாயார் சந்திரா அம்மையார். இவர்கள் இருவருமே இசை வேளாளர்கள். முத்துலட்சுமி பிறந்த ஓரிரு ஆண்டுகளில் அவர் தந்தையார் மறைந்தார். விக்கிபிடீயாவில் குறிப்பிட்டு இருக்கும் திரு.நாராயண சுவாமி இவர்கள் குடும்பத்தை இதன் பின்னர் ஆதரித்தவர்.இந்த திருமண உறவில் பிறந்த இவரது சகோதரி நல்லமுத்து அவர்கள் பின்னர் ஆங்கில இலக்கியம் படித்து லண்டன் சென்று மேற்படிப்பு படித்து குயின்மேரி கல்லூரியில் முதல்வராக இருந்தார். அவர்தான் நாராயணஸ்வாமி - சந்திரா அம்மையாரின் மகள்.அதில் முத்துலட்சுமியின் தந்தை எனக் குறிபிட்டு இருப்பது தவறு. முத்துலட்சுமி நன்கு படிக்கும் மாணவியாக இருப்பது கண்டு அவரது திண்ணைப் பள்ளி ஆசிரியர் திரு. பாலையா அவர்கள்தான் முத்துலட்சுமி தொடர்ந்து படிக்க ஊக்கமளித்தார். பின்னாட்களில் அவர் மன்னர் கல்லூரியில் சேரும் காலத்தில் திரு.நாரயணஸ்வாமி அவர் அங்கு சேர்ந்து படிக்கவும், வகுப்பு நடைபெரும் போது இவர் ஜன்னலுக்கு வெளியே ஒரு மாட்டு வண்டியில் இருந்து இவர் பாடங்களைக் கேட்கவும் மன்னரிடம் பேசி அனுமதி வாங்கினார். பதிவர் புதுகை தென்றல் ஆசிரியர் பாலையாவின் நெருங்கிய உறவினர். மேலும் தகவல்களுக்கு அவர்களைக் கேட்கலாம். இதற்கும் முன்னதாக தவறான தகவல் இருக்கும் இந்த விக்கி பக்கத்தை எப்படி நீக்குவது அல்லது பிழை திருத்துவது?

அந்த முத்துலட்சுமி அம்மையார் தான், மருத்துவம் படித்து, இந்தியாவின் முதல் பெண் மருத்துவர் என்ற பெருமையையும் பெற்றவர். அவரோடு படித்த ஒரு ரெட்டியார் சமூகத்து இளைஞரின் வற்புறுத்தலின் பேரில், தன்னுடைய சுதந்திரத்திற்கும், சமூகப்பணிக்கும் எந்தவித்தத்திலும் இடையூராக இருந்து விடக்கூடாது என்ற வாக்குறுதியின் பேரில் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ள அது முதல் அவர் பெயருக்கு பின்னே ரெட்டி வந்து உட்கார்ந்து கொண்டது.

அவர்தான் இந்தியாவில் முதல் முறையாக சட்டமன்றம் சென்ற பெண்ணுமாவார். பெண்களுக்கு பொட்டு கட்டும் நடைமுறைக்கு எதிரான சட்டம் இயற்றும் தீர்மானத்தை அவர் கொண்டு வந்து சட்டசபையில் பேசும் போது, அப்போழுது தமிழக காங்கிரஸ் கட்சி தலைவராக இருந்த சத்தியமூர்த்தி என்ற பிராமணர், அந்த சட்டத்திற்கு எதிராக கடுமையாக வாதாடினார், ஒரு கட்டத்தில் ஆண்களுக்கான வடிகாலுக்கு இது மாதிரி ஒரு கட்டமைப்பு தேவை என்று சொல்ல, அப்படியானால், உங்கள் பிராமண சாதி பெண்களுக்கு பொட்டு கட்டி ஊருக்கு விருந்து வையுங்கள் என்று சொல்லவும் தான்.... அவர் அமைதியாகி அந்த சட்டம் நிறைவேறியது.

அதேப் போன்று சாரதா சட்டம் என்ற இள வயது திருமண தடைச் சட்டம் கொண்டுவந்ததிலும் அவரது உழைப்பு மிகப் பெரியது.

அது போல இன்றைக்கும் பல லட்சம் பேருக்கு உயிர்ப்பிச்சை அளித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் உலக அளவில் பிரசித்தி பெற்ற சென்னை அடையார் புற்றுநோய் மருத்துவமனையும் அவரது முயற்சியாலேயே தொடங்கப்பட்டது. சென்னையில் முதல் முதலாக பெண்களுக்கென்று பிரத்தியேகமாக அரசு மகளிர் மருத்துவமனையையும் அவரது அயராத முயற்சியினாலேயே தொடங்கப்பட்டது.

The entry for Muthulakshmi Reddy says she was India's first woman doctor, but another entry for Kadambini Ganguly says it ws she in 1886 who was India's first doctor. Who was it then?
