Reverse copyvio concern[edit]

@Diannaa, TonyBallioni, and Sphilbrick: I just declined a G12 on this article because as near as I can see it's all reverse copyvio. The "oldest" page I can find was archived in 2009 and has a ©2007 on it, yet it matches text that was here in 2006. Everything else is copyrighted to the 2010s.

Just wanted a few more sets of eyes on this. Thanks. Primefac (talk) 16:38, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Primefac, without having looked too closely at this and done the web archive search, etc. I doubt this is reverse copyvio: if this was around in 2007, which is what you are suggesting above, there is a likelihood in my mind that this is his official biography he uses for speaking and other engagements and someone copied it here in 2006 before the the Wayback machine got it. I came across a very similar situation at William H. Keeler when doing the GA review. I was only able to piece together the copyright situation there by checking sources on the Holy See's website and a few books that had partial bits of the copied text. This guy isn't as prominent as a Cardinal Archbishop of Baltimore so I'm not sure if we will be able to piece it together, but this also smells like a copyvio to me. I'm not sure what our best options are, and I'd like to hear Diannaa's and Sphilbrick's views. TonyBallioni (talk) 17:40, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm getting ready to run to a meeting so limited time to review until tomorrow. I'd be curious what led @TenPoundHammer: to nominate, most G12's I see nominated have been recently edited materially. I don't see anything (other than one vandal edit) substantive in years. I looked at the editors, no single editor with a material portion of the current total (which is common in copyvios). The Largest single edit appears to be this edit --S Philbrick(Talk) 22:36, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
