Verify[edit]

I tagged the last line in Technology, because I didn't experience such behaviour. A slow computer is prone to audio-lag, that isn't an engine-bug. --bitterMan.lha 06:35, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the audio lag is a fault of the game engine, but not a bug. A cursory examination of the game's resource files using Dragon Unpacker reveal that the video and audio data for a cinematic are stored in completely seperate Bink and Vorbis files and are played back simultaneously at runtime. On slower computers, the computer cannot handle the video data (some videos are 125 MB) and the audio data (sometimes 50 MB) to provide perfect sync. Why the developers did this, when they could have used the perfectly fine Bink interleaved audio, I have no idea. Green451 20:21, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dreamforge version of Myst IV[edit]

Apparently, there was a previous, realtime 3D version of Myst IV in development. I put a brief mention of it into the article, but I don't know if the sources I provided will hold up to an FAC examination. I thought it was an interesting tidbit, nonetheless. Also, this website has an interesting bit from Mary DeMarle about this version of Myst IV, and that it was actually put in development before Presto went into development with Exile. I'm not sure if you want to do anything with this, David, as I don't have the time to do much more with it, and so I understand if you decide to delete the whole mention of it from the article. So, yeah. I wasn't able to find "DreamForge" anywhere on ProQuest. I did find some information about Mattel's involvement in Myst, but it only talks about Presto Studios. Here are some excerpts from the article:

Now that I finished with Exile, I'm ready to start working on getting this up to FA. I know the following need to be done: expanding development and audio, copyediting. Recently, an external link was removed from this article (as seen here). Was this link really counterproductive to the article? WP:NOTLINK says:

"There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate."

MYSTerium was one of the premiere Myst fansites for news, but it is now dormant. Instead of removing it completely, perhaps we should update the MYSTerium link to a more active fansite? — OranL (talk) 16:58, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Harold quote[edit]

I've cut down the Harold quote about the music a bit. I took the liberty of checking every review of Revelation on Metacritic, and of the ones who mentioned the music and didn't have broken links (about 15 or so), Harold was the only one with a negative view of the score. All of the other critics singled the score out for praise. It seemed like a little much undue weight to devote a somewhat lengthy quote (by this article's standards) to a lone dissenter. I do notice that you mention the score being consistently praised above that quote, and I think it's a little more accurately weighted, now. Does my revision work for you, David?
