Saudi Arabia sale

PARIS --- The Saudi government last week agreed to purchase a total of 142 helicopters from France, in a deal that will modernize its military helicopter fleet at a single stroke and that, together with additional contracts to follow, firmly establishes France as the kingdom’s main weapons supplier.

The helicopter contract, due to be signed with France’s Sofresa arms export agency, will cover 64 NH-90 battlefield helicopters; 20 Eurocopter Cougar utility helicopters in Combat Search and Rescue version; 42 Eurocopter Fennec light helicopters; four Panther naval Search and Rescue helicopters; and an initial batch of 12 Tiger attack helicopters. The NH-90s are made by NH Industries, a joint company in which France’s Eurocopter has a 62.5% share, while all other types are produced by Eurocopter.

The contract also includes the provision of weapons, spare parts, training services and support equipment, as well as the construction of several helicopter bases, boosting its total value to well over 7 billion euros, sources say. It is the largest single arms export deal ever signed by France.

The NH-90 order includes 10 naval NFH-90s for the Saudi navy; 42 TTH-90 battlefield helicopters for the Saudi Army and 12 more for the Saudi Arabian National Guard, while the Fennec order comprises 30 helicopters for the Saudi air force and 12 for the national guard. The 12 Tigers will be operated by the Saudi Arabian National Guard, which is to eventually procure a total of 36 or 48.

A separate contract will cover an unspecified number of Airbus A330 aerial tankers, similar to the KC-30 that EADS, the corporate parent of both Airbus and Eurocopter, has offered to the US Air Force. -- Adeptitus 18:32, 25 July 2006 (UTC)`

What's this? French jingosism?!

The shares of NH-Industries are held by:

Eurocopter 62.5% Agusta: 32% Fokker: 5.5%

whereas Eurocopter is a 100% subsidiary of EADS.

Status on the Saudi sale? The NHI website doesn't mention it. Sometimes contracts fall through or at least end up being suspended for a time. MrG 71.208.24.153 (talk) 01:25, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Enforcer

Is this a variant of the MH-90 Enforcer or is that another machine?

The MH-90 Enforcer is the USCG's unofficial designation for the MD Helicopters MD Explorer. It is a completely different aircraft. I noticed that the MH-90 is not mentioned on the MD Explorer page, so I will try to add something on it to that page shortly. Thanks. - BillCJ (talk) 14:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Helibras???

Someone has entered a claim that the NH90 is manufactured by Helibras as well as NHI. I cannot find any reference at all to this in the real world - this would only make sense if Brazil were an export customer - they are not. I am prepared to concede that as a Eurocopter subsidiary they may manufacture some components in the progamme, but until someone can provide a reference for this wild claim I'll place a "citation needed" on the claim and remove it entirely in 24 hours.

Primary users

What is a primary user? The list seems a bit arbitrary (yes, it contains most of the big users but not for example Saudi. It isn't the founding countries either as Australia is part of it). The order of listing is quite strange. In the infobox, order by quantity amount should show France as first, instead of behind Germany and Italy. In the description text, countries are placed in alphabetical order less France which is after Germany and Greece when it should have been before (abcdeFg). Operators map

Payload Capability

Doesn't this seem a little 'inadequate' for a Sea King/ Ch-53G & too large for a Lynx/UH-1D replacement? Since it appears the Deutsche Heer is buying them to replace the ancient Ch-53G & UH-1D & the Deutsche Marine is replacing it's Westland Sea King & Lynx. This is what Europe ends up with when consolidating all it's aerospace into a non-competitive monopoly.96.238.134.140 (talk) 10:18, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Update on program/ deliveries

This article is severely out of date. Is there any news on the NH90 for 2011? The progress on this helicopter is glacially slow.96.238.128.115 (talk) 12:52, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Seems like it needs an update alright. I don't know the details, but according to this Volkskrant-article a Dutch frigate has just been fitted with the NH-90 helicopter. So the weight problem mentioned on Wikipedia seems to be solved:

Not solved, just being lived with. They've taken out the (heavy, expensive) ASW kit on helicopters using the old frigates where weight was a problem. So effectively they've ended up with navalised TTH's for VERTREP and troop-transport (eg anti-piracy), and are keeping their fingers crossed that their old frigates won't have to look for submarines before they are retired. Not ideal, but pragmatic in the circumstances.Le Deluge (talk) 13:49, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Operators

The operators section is a bit misleading most of the information relates to orders not to actual numbers operated, anybody have a reliable reference to update the list. We should at least label most of them to indicate they are orders. In November 2012 only 128 had been delivered. MilborneOne (talk) 17:55, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

I'm not a fan of omitting the numbers de facto, we manage to maintain them fine enough on plenty of other aircraft articles. If they're not immediately up-to-this-very-second's-status, but are reliably cited and periodically updated as appropriate, that is all that is necessary as per the practice of other aircraft articles that conduct this practice as a matter of routine.
