RfC about occupations in first sentence[edit]

Should the first sentence describe Scott as a music producer and a director? KyleJoantalk 09:16, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • No per MOS:ROLEBIO. The article lists one directorial credit and mentions nothing about music production. KyleJoantalk 10:03, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, reliable source coverage referring to her as such or her role in such: [1] [2] [3] [4] If these roles aren't mentioned in the opening sentence they, at the very least, should be mentioned at some point in the lead per WP:LEAD. Issan Sumisu (talk) 10:44, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Only two of those describe Scott as a director and music producer, while one (Vogue Arabia) calls her an actor and musician. Yes, she has directed one music video and produced her own two extended plays, but if those three endeavors are so noteworthy, then why do the Los Angeles Times, British Vogue, Elle Australia, Vogue India, Relevant Magazine, and Vogue Australia all refer to her as an actress and singer only? KyleJoantalk 02:29, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes It merits inclusion in the lede. As a compromise, I would be fine if it isn't included in the first sentence. ~ HAL333 16:13, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • You would be fine with the lead stating she is a music producer when there's no information on her music production work in the body? Wouldn't that be WP:UNDUE? The sources also describe her as a songwriter and a musician, so should the lede include those occupations as well (e.g., Scott is an actress, singer, music producer, director, musician and songwriter)? KyleJoantalk 17:56, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please don't bludgeon everyone. Make your points in a discussion below. ~ HAL333 01:11, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry for asking three simple yes–no questions. Cheers! KyleJoantalk 03:08, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • No MOS:ROLEBIO explicitly states that "a position, activity, or role should not be included the lead paragraph if: a) the role is not otherwise discussed in the lead (per MOS:LEAD, don't tease the reader), b) the role is not significantly covered in the body of the article, or, c) the role is auxiliary to a main profession of the person (e.g. do not add "textbook writer", if the person is an academic)." So, in short, only her primary profession should be listed here. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 10:07, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • No for essentially the reasons articulated above by Krimuk2.0. The "Career" section of the article is around 80% acting roles, 20% singing, and says nothing about directing or producing. Colin M (talk) 15:16, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
