Merger proposal[edit]

I suggest Nouveau Louvre be merged into Louvre Palace. I think that the content in the Nouveau Louvre article can easily be added to the 19th-century section of Louvre Palace, and the Louvre Palace article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Nouveau Louvre will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. For example, the article Jupiter is 126,244 bytes, whereas Louvre Palace is only 47,080 bytes and Nouveau Louvre is only 11,806 bytes. Moreover, the name "nouveau Louvre" was used at the time but is no longer common, and it is not really a separate topic. Robert.Allen (talk) 19:40, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The name "Nouveau Louvre" is questionable[edit]

However, the statement "The Nouveau Louvre is shorthand for the expansion of the Louvre Palace in Paris during the Second French Empire" may be misleading; "Nouveau Louvre" does not appear to be a commonly used name. Only one author I have read, Geneviève Bresc-Bautier, uses it, and in English, as 'New Louvre': in a chapter title "The 'New Louvre'" (p. 119), a section heading "The 'New Louvre' of Napoleon III" (p. 126), and the sentence "The first stone of what was referred to as the 'New Louvre' was laid opposite the Palais Royal on 25 July 1852...." (also p. 126). This name for referring to the additions made at that time appears to be unique to her and has not been used by other authors cited by you, or others I consulted. Moreover, what is the justification of translating this one author's apparently unique nomenclature back into French for the English Wikipedia?
