“Indian American” is not a nationality[edit]

Shankar's nationality is listed as "Indian American," in contrast to US citizens of Indian descent (e.g. Kal Penn) or Indian-born, naturalized citizens (e.g. Padma Lakshmi). "Indian American" does jot refer to a nationality but instead a subset of US citizens.

The article does not state Shankar's place of birth or nationality at birth. Even if Shankar was originally an Indian citizen, if he was naturalized, then he became a US-American citizen.
