Substantial overlap between National Biodiversity Conservation Areas and List of protected areas of Laos, huh? Abductive (reasoning) 02:57, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

National Biodiversity Conservation Areas now National Protected Areas?[edit]

From reading a number of sources, I'm wondering if the term National Protected Areas has superseded National Biodiversity Conservation Areas? The Ecotourism Laos website (Lao government-run) refers to the system of National Protected Areas here, though complete profiles for individual areas may still have NBCA in the title. IUCN refers to NPAs here. Lonely Planet's Laos 2014 and 2010 editions discuss the naming change in some detail in their Environment section: "the areas were renamed National Protected Areas a few years ago..."

At ProtectedPlanet.net NBCA names still appear, as here. Though it's unclear how up-to-date their data are and they use a variety of sources (including Wikipedia for descriptions).

My inclination would be to now use National Protected Area. Wondering what others may think. Thanks Declangi (talk) 01:44, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
