Off-topic external links[edit]

Skeezix1000 persuaded me that off-topic external links like the ones below were an unhelpful addition to Library and Archives Canada; and consequently, I've moved them from the NLNZ article as well -- see Talk:Library and Archives Canada#Off-topic external links.

NLNZ National Preservation Office

In this context, I see the following citation as plausibly relevant to improved articles about NLNZ, LAC, etc.:

The need for national entities like the National Preservation Office (NPO) in the British Library has been documented in surveys conducted by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Section on Preservation & Conservation and by the Ligue Internationale des Bibliothèques Européennes de Recherches. Instructions for generating persisent URLs to National Library of New Zealand records[edit]

The National Library of New Zealand has an excellent collection of New Zealand books, pamphlets, sound recordings, and similar. Unfortunately the catalogue doesn't make it easy to create persistent URLs into the catalogue for use in references. This is a quick description of how to generate such URLs.

Go to http://nlnzcat.natlib.govt.nz and search by author, title or keyword to find the record you're after.
Once you've found an item you want to link to, click on "Detailed View"
At the bottom of the list of details there is a "Record number" such as Record number: 843492
Append this record number to the URL "http://nlnzcat.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=" in this case http://nlnzcat.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=843492
This is the persistent URL to use for this record.

I'm hoping that this is going to be useful for proving the notability of New Zealand artists, musicians, authors and academics.Stuartyeates (talk) 20:48, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
