Although Wogan is cited as the source of the name "Northampton Lighthouse", I remember using that term in the 1970s, and it was known locally by that name. Norman Fitznicely (talk) 13:09, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I take issue with the statement, "The tower has never been open to the general public". I myself have been to the top during the summer of 1987 or 1988 at the age of 10 or 11. We had no special arrangements, although the climb from the uppermost lift-accessible floor to the roof is not for the faint-hearted.DaveBrit (talk) 23:36, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the statement is accurate - might there have been special arrangements that you were not aware of ? I don't think you have ever been able to simply turn up, even as part of the open buildings heritage days. --195.137.93.171 (talk) 03:33, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is it worth stating about how some say it is similar to the tower in the gorillaz feel good inc video? here is a link to a person other than me that says this, and there are others too. Drlf (talk) 21:15, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've personally never heard a local refer to it as anything but "the lift tower", though the 1970s are a bit before my time so it might have simply fallen out of disuse. Fairly sure there have been occasional open days, with or without advance bookings, but it's never really caught on; I can't imagine the view is anything to write home about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.150.168.185 (talk) 14:55, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When I see articles about the “Northampton Lift Tower” I never hear mention of British Standards Institution (BSI) as one the shafts was dedicated to BSI only. Due to the confidentiality of the testing that went on there with national and international clients the shaft could only be accessed by BSI employees. The other remaining shafts belonged to Express. BSI ceased using the tower primarily due to the fact the international clients built their own towers and the down turn in the lift business in the UK with the closing of Express and UK lift makers now purchasing parts from overseas markets opposed to home grown designs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.199.120.80 (talk) 00:45, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
