Page deletion or redirect[edit]

I don't really care about this article, but I don't appreciate having someone say that I deleted an article. I moved the entire contents of this article to the Liechtenstein/Government section where it made more sense. It's still there so the exact same content is in two articles, and someone (not me) will eventually delete + redirect this article. --GlowBee (talk) 03:52, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Last sentence of Crime section doesn't make sense 98.204.71.11 (talk) 23:06, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[edit]

The statement, "...Liechtenstein victory over England (the score was England 2-0 Liechtenstein)..." makes no sense. If Liechtenstein won, it should read "...Liechtenstein victory over England (the score was Liechtenstein 2-0 England)..." If Liechtenstein lost, it should read " England victory over Liechtenstein (the score was Liechtenstein 2-0 England)."

In fact, even better would be "...Liechtenstein 2-0 victory over England..." or "...England 2-0 victory over Liechtenstein..."

Done - fixed sentence, removed pointless score from crime section. B-watchmework (talk) 01:12, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Move to National Police (Liechtenstein)[edit]

Trying to work out the best title for organisations like this is always difficult - especially where the native name is German, a language in which the names of organisations are often fairly challenging to accurately translate to English! I've applied WP:NC, WP:NC-GAL and WP:UE to try and work out the best name for the article as I don't think it's at the right place at the moment.

A fair starting point is the "official" or "legal" name for the organisation, which in this case is "Landespolizei", per the Police Act 1989. This could be translated into English in a few different ways (we translate the landespolizei of Germany as "State Police" for example, because in that context "Land" is used in the way that "state" is in English), but "National Police" seems to work best in this context, where "Land" refers to the country of Liechtenstein rather than a state. The officially-translated English information brochure produced by the organisation uses the name "National Police". The OSCE POLIS database also uses this name. We should consider whether there is a commonly-used name, which if there was may be preferable - but it doesn't appear that there is any significant coverage of the organisation in English-language media to help guide us towards a common name. Per WP:UE, we should use therefore use "National Police".

I don't think "Force" or "Service" add anything here. Neither word is present in the German name, nor is is present in any official translations into English. "Force" and "Service" aren't easily exchangeable words between English and German. We don't use "Force" or "Service" in the article titles of police forces with English names, unless it is clearly part of their official and commonly-used names (very few police forces in the English-speaking world use either as part of their official name, and it is even more rare to use in their common name, e.g. the legal name of the police in London is "the metropolitan police force", they brand themselves "the Metropolitan Police Service", but they are known in general English usage, and on Wikipedia, as either "the Metropolitan Police" or "the Met".)

There are a number of "National Police" organisations in existence, and where a qualifier is necessary in order to disambiguate the name of a governmental organisation, per WP:NC-GAL it should be present in brackets - which gives us National Police (Liechtenstein).

I don't think this is likely to be a hugely controversial move but given the complexity I thought it was worth setting out the rationale, which can hardly be summarised in an edit summary! ninety:one 15:15, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
