Wilmington, Shmilmington[edit]

What having a Wilmington address means is that a site is either in the City of Wilmington, in an unincorporated area of the county around the city, or in an incorporated suburb that is too small for a separate designation by the US Postal Service. Rather than plucking out individual historic sites, I just clarified the introduction. !RevelationDirect (talk) 15:01, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Location Cleanup[edit]

  • Savin-Wilson House is in Kent County. (Based on the hundred, the coodsr and the streets.)
  • Mount Pleasant is in Kent County. (Hundred, coords and Street all use Smyrna address but south of Duck Creek.)
  • Air Service coords not in or near New Castle municipality. Not sure which one is right.
  • Liston Range Lighthouse on the Delaware River but coords put it in an upscale (and inland) Wilmington Neighborhood.
  • Biddle House: South of St. Georges and across the canal ain't St. Georges anymore.
  • Delaware Boundary Markers: Coordinates are probably not appropriate for this multi-location listing, but the one given is a farmhouse nowhere near the state border.

I fixed the coordinates for the Air Service Inc. Hangar by looking up the location in Google Earth. Geocode coordinates from the NPS NRIS database are often in error, particularly on the East Coast. Re Liston Range Light, assuming you're talking about Liston Range Rear Light Station, according to this map and Google Maps, the coordinates appear to be correct. Based on the DelawareGreenways.org map, it certainly seems that you're correct about the other two sites and they should probably be moved to the Kent County list. Unfortunately, the NRIS database sometimes has the wrong county. NRHP properties sometimes span county boundaries and are listed in all applicable counties, but that seems unlikely in these cases. --sanfranman59 (talk) 21:53, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, the front one but I fixed it with the coords in the article.RevelationDirect (talk) 02:16, 11 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and moved the Savin-Wilson House & Mount Pleasant listings to the Kent County list. --sanfranman59 (talk) 05:01, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Geographic coordinates[edit]

A quick check found several of the map coordinates incorrect- the coordinates for the Wilmington and Western Railroad place it on Hercules Road, not Greenbank Road, and the coordinates for Red Clay Presbyterian place it at the intersection on the driving range on Mill Creek Road instead of at the intersection of Mill Creek Road and McKennas Church Road. Ibased on my small sample, I suspect there are other location errors.Wkharrisjr (talk) 19:00, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected these two, but suggest that people double check the posted coordinates with the actual locations.Wkharrisjr (talk) 16:12, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stockton/Montmorency?[edit]

The national register and this article refers to the Stockton/Montmorency estate as being a registered site. Perhaps it is referring to the Greenville Country Club (the old Owl's Nest estate of the DuPonts)? http://history.delaware.gov/news/oct10.shtml Wkharrisjr (talk) 14:08, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's a new listing so I can't say for sure, but "Owl's Nest" the country club is already listed on the NRHP at 39°48′55″N 75°37′27″W / 39.815278°N 75.624167°W / 39.815278; -75.624167 and the new place looks to be a mile or so south at 39°47′33″N 75°37′47″W / 39.792372°N 75.629647°W / 39.792372; -75.629647 at 1700 Walnut Green Road. The new listing looks like it will be hard to get a photo of. If I've messed up anything here beyond my grammar, please let me know. Smallbones (talk) 20:52, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that listing also. Owl's Nest is shown as listed around the same time as Stockton/Montmrency. Since S/M's listed address does not make sense, it makes me wonder if there was an administrative mix-up. The NRHP data base is off line right now; when it comes back up we might be able to piece together where this structure is located.Wkharrisjr (talk) 23:16, 23 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
1700 Walnut Green Road listing in the NCC land records: [[1] Owned by Henry W. and Martha DuPont. Looks liek the first structure was built in 1850. Located southwest of the intersection of Campbell Road and New London Road. At least we know the property exists. I'll add the longitude and latitude to the database.Wkharrisjr (talk) 19:42, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I grew up in Montmorency, located at 1700 Walnut Green Rd. It is not the Owl's Nest property. It was called just "Stockton" before my parents bought it and renamed it Montmorency(or added to the name Stockton).Barkway (talk) 21:59, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

William Hicklen House[edit]

Why the address restriction for this site? Information about this house, including its address is public information. Wkharrisjr (talk) 18:13, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Martin Road Bridge[edit]

The Martin Road Bridge, which is on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Shiawassee County, Michigan, has been disassembled and removed from its original site. The plan is move it to the Auburn Heights Preserve in Yorklyn, Delaware.[1][2] Not sure when this will be accomplished, but at some point the listing ought to be moved to this page. (Looks like there will be four "new" historic bridges moved here by 2020.[3]) Andrew Jameson (talk) 16:57, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
