Time Zone?

When was the Central Time adopted and how did that "isolate" them from the rest of the state, parts of which include areas also on Central time. Evansville, Indiana is on Central Time, for one. Did this have anything to do with the imposition of 'Daylight Savings Time'? Why did the county have to ask the US Department of Transportation to allow them to change what time zone they observe? Isn't that a state concern? Does the Time Zone entry really belong?Corumplex (talk) 02:30, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

The authority of the USDOT is discussed at 1966 and before; the change to DST, including the "time island" phenomenon occurred in 2006 and the resulting confusion is detailed in subsequent years. To say the base was isolated from the rest of the state is perhaps not wholly accurate in technical terms since there are counties in the corners of the state which observe Central Time; however, the phrase does convey the subjective effect given the large percentage of the Crane workforce which resides in adjacent counties which remained on Eastern Time. Whether the whole discussion belongs here or not, I don't know, but it is a notable incident from the base's recent history.Starcr (talk) 16:39, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

"The base is the third largest [U.S. Navy] installation in the world by geographic area and employs approximately 3,300 people" does not appear entirely accurate

Currently, Naval Support Activity Crane redirects here. Naval Support Activity Crane is a U.S. Navy installation. This is misleading and is similar to searching for a city and being redirected to a business within that city. Content specific to the installation, to include geographical data, overall population, and other information should be moved there. For an example, visit Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg.
