Tony Pearson refers to systems from 1977[edit]

I deeply respect clarification from Tony Pearson, but nowadays this term (Nearline storage) is used less by major companies. It seems that it easier to market "for backup" than "Nearline storage"

For example:

Amazon Glacier by Amazon
https://cloud.google.com/storage/ by Google includes "Nearline" plan (along with "Standart" and "DRA")
https://cloud.google.com/storage-nearline/ "Highly Available Cold Storage A low-cost, highly-durable and highly available storage service for data archiving, online backup and disaster recovery."

It seems to me that instead of "Nearline storage" they simply add "for data archiving and backup". Ushkin N (talk) 01:54, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
