Bligh was not yet a Captain...[edit]

I corrected Bligh's rank. Bligh is often referred to as "Captain Bligh". But Bligh was not a Post Captain when he commanded the Bounty. The Bounty was Bligh's first command, and he had recently been commissioned as a Lieutenant, the lowest commissioned rank in the 18th Century Royal Navy. Whoever was appointed to command a Royal Navy vessel could be addressed as "captain", just as a civilian commanding a civilian ship should be addressed as "captain". But Captain was not his rank until he was appointed to command a ship of a certain size.

So I changed "its Captain William Bligh" to "its captain, Lieutenant William Bligh".

"Conversion" to Christianity[edit]

I've removed the reference to Young's "conversion". I strongly suspect he was technically a Christian since childhood, and so probably were all other mutineers as well. Huon (talk) 13:31, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ned Young's bio, with references.[edit]

Howdy. The following link will take you to a page I believe will give a clearer, more substantive biography of Ned Young, with citations to the extent they exist: http://rickstours.blogspot.com/2012/09/edward-young-bounty-mutineer.html This is the first time I've attempted to edit a Wikipedia article, so think I'll leave it here. Distillery[edit]

The reference for the statement "Young himself took charge of the distillery and brewed a primitive alcohol referred to as Quaff that features in several diaries from this period." is to Bligh's account of the Bounty. This predates the discovery of the Pitcairners and could not reference the actions on Pitcairn Island or the Young taking charge of the distillery. Is there another reference for this? Are there references to where it was called 'Quaff'? --Yofsotsi (talk) 21:16, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Painting[edit]

I have inherited A painting called "The Bounty Sails Away" the signature is "Young".Can any one give me some history on this piece and an estimated age? In the painting there is a man in a blue navy uniform standing on a wharf watching the Bounty sail away.
