Unverifiable and Unreferenced P.R. Piece -- Candidate for Deletion[edit]

This article was edited largely by a user named "3rd East" (whose only contributions are the Papiano article) and by a series of unnamed, unregistered users (with the IP address prefix 69.235 ...) This entire article appears to be a public relations puff piece on a Los Angeles lawyer, not a sourced and referenced encyclopedia article. Query whether the IP 69.235 prefix is for the subject's law firm. I previously posted comments on this talk page asking "3rd East" the following question: "If you are not affiliated with Mr. Papiano, his law firm, or its public relations group, then how were you able to compile a list of his clients? Or his personal information?" That query was never answered and my comments were promptly deleted in their entirety by an unnamed, unregistered user (IP address 4.227.130.151) who had never made a prior edit and has never made another one since. There is still no source information and no way to verify any of the claims in the article. The author has been given ample opportunity since May to add verifiable citations for the factual assertions and has failed to do so. The links which have been added consist of non-working web site links. And even those non-working citations only purported to verify information about charitable contributions, not the core factual assertions. Information lacking verifiable sources is not properly included on wikipedia. If verifiable references are not provided for this article, I suggest it be recommended for deletion. I can confirm that the lazoo.org link was working when I added it. this link is not as good, but is at least still alive. You will also see the two links above that should probably should be worked into the article. More realistically we should be looking to assist in citing the article where the content is relevant, and remove irrelevant content. Having said that I found a number of citations for the article quite quickly, and merely because User:3rd East is inexperienced and has not edited other articles, does not mean we should not WO:AGF. • My concern with the Papiano is not that 3rd East is an inexperienced editor. Rather, my concerns are multiple, including (i) the article reads like an advertisement for a practicing lawyer in LA, (ii) the article is not written in an encyclopedic and neutral mannter, and (iii) while Mr. Papiano's LA zoo donation may be verifiable, the claims about numerous "representative clients," playing football for Stanford, foregoing a judgeship, gaining "favorable" outcomes for clients, etc. are not verifiable and lack citations, and are written in a truly promotional way. In my opinion, the article should at least be pared back to that which is truly neutral and verifiable. As for the suggested WO:AGF, I don't know what that is and can't read the language in the link. See answer on my talk page. But also the legal stuff should be verifiable. Rich Farmbrough, 21:48 9 December 2007 (GMT).

Response to Deleted 3rd East comments[edit]

Deleted comment: Obviously, legaleze and arbitration are not understood by CBL62. As for the Steve Garvey case, Papiano became Garvey's attorney upon appeal after arbitration had taken place. Please see the case at http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/cgi-bin/getcase.pl?court=9th&navby=case&no=9855263

And if the site previously cited says something else, there is no explanation for it. However, in some instances it also does seem as if CBL62 accepts as fact only those articles, news or otherwise, that indicate negative aspects. Papiano did not become prominent because he lost most cases. 3rdEast

Response - I have no agenda other than to ensure the article meets standards for accuracy, verifiability and notability. A Wikipedia article should not be, or read like, an advertisement. I have included in the article discussion of the subject's $2.7 recovery for Lafitte Pincay; I don't think that's a "negative aspect." I have also included numerous published quotes from Papiano himself discussing his cases, including his comment about the Taylor settlement and little things not making her happy. As for my not understanding "legaleze" (as you put it), please let me know what I have gotten wrong.Cbl62 (talk) 17:57, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Am I to assume you recieved my response even though it has been deleted? 3rdEast —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.100.253.50 (talk) 13:28, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice edits and edit summary, Cbl62. Thanks!3rdEast (talk) 13 January 2008 (UTC)
