Plymouth Superbird pursuit car nicknamed the Blackbird[edit]

Back in the mid 1980s I remember reading a magazine article, Muscle Car/Mopar publication. It was in the letters section with a photo of a Plymouth/Dodge Superbird/Daytona sitting in a Texas tow yard. I'll try give a Readers Digest version. The car was purchased at a state surplus auction in the late 70s.The girlfriend of the owner ended up with the car, eventually sitting in the Texas location. It was painted flat black and instead of the pop up headlights they were covered with plexiglas. A few months later a retired Nevada State Trooper responded that he had used the car in the early 70s. It was used for high speed pursuit and to transport court materials in emergencies. Supposedly the car had pulled over a Ferrari outside Las Vegas Vegas. The Ferrari was traveling over 100 mph (140?). The Trooper had caught up with the speeder from a dead stop 7 miles down the road. The plexiglas covers on the headlights were installed for practically. I can find nothing about this car online. Apparently the car was a slug at a stoplight and back then gas was expensive for a car like that. On the highway it was a beast having really low gears swapped in.I think it's an awesome urban legend and I would appreciate any information out there.
