Summary: The article defines New England as it does because that's what the sources say.

What is New England?[edit]

New England is the region of exactly: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.[1][2]

Isn't New York state a part of New England?[edit]

No. No definition [3] of New England has been produced that includes New York state.

You wouldn't argue with Ben Franklin, would you?

I'm from Western Connecticut and don't care about Boston, cheer for New York teams, and would never be associated with so inferior a city when I'm a clearly part of New York City[edit]

Being a part of New England doesn't mean your economic and cultural life is dominated by the inferior city of Boston. Since every definition [4][5] that can be produced includes all of Connecticut, any expansion of the New York metro area must be viewed as changing the nature of New England, not grounds for a redefinition of its boundaries. This means that part of New England is dominated by New York City.

But I'm in the New York metropolitan area![edit]

Yes, we don't debate that. Part of NYC metro area is in New England, according to every source produced. These are not mutually exclusive qualities.

All sources attest that Connecticut is part of New England. Likewise, every source states that parts of New Haven County, Connecticut, Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Litchfield County, Connecticut are part of the New York metropolitan area. A reliable source needs to say otherwise if you contest this.

There is no such state as New England, but there is a state called CT.[edit]

There is no state called "United States" either, do you dispute that Vermont is a part of the country? New England has a very rich history cultural heritage, and that cannot be ignored.

I still don't agree, how can I make you guys change your minds?[edit]

If you can produce a source that defines New England differently than above, present it on the talk page and we'll discuss it. Arguments from personal experience or opinion concerning the definition of New England are insufficient according to the Five pillars Wikipedia is based upon.
