Comments[edit]

The article states: "Among the lakes is Lake Peigneur, which was formerly a freshwater lake until a disaster involving oil drilling and a salt mine. The lake is now salt water, having been refilled by the Gulf of Mexico."

But Lake Peigneur is several miles to the southwest of New Iberia, and is a mile or so north of Delcambre, not to mention the fact that Lake Peigneur's salinity tends to be graduated the deeper you go into the lake near where the oil rig punctured the salt dome. I would change it, but I'm too lazy to do so (which doesn't explain why I actually started a talk page for New Iberia!) Flying CanOpener 01:32, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is accurate, there is an article and many documentaries on the lake disaster. It did turn from fresh water to salt water. Look it up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.25.78.172 (talk) 08:57, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Evangeline in New Iberia?[edit]

The article states "This region has many natural features of interest and is the scene of part of Longfellow's Evangeline."

Is this correct? I recall St. Martinville, in neighboring St. Martin Parish, being mentioned in Longfellow's Evangeline, but not New Iberia.

I checked the text of "Evangeline" and it contains no references to New Iberia; it does, however, mention St. Martinville. So I deleted the reference to "Evangeline" occurring in the New Iberia area.

Spanish Lake[edit]

"The town of New Iberia dates from Spring 1779, when a group of 500 Malaguenian colonists and the actual founder Bernardo de Galvez[2] [3] came up Bayou Teche and settled around Spanish Lake."

The link to Spanish Lake in the sentence doesn't link to the correct Spanish Lake in Iberian Parish ... it links to another Spanish Lake in Louisiana. It should link to Spanish Lake (Iberia Parish)

Redlinks and citations for notable people[edit]

Please do not add redlinks or people without any citation to the list of notables from New Iberia. If they're added without citation they will be removed temporarily, until someone add the citation and relationship to the city Thank you! Jooojay (talk) 01:50, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Places of Interest – the city vs parish[edit]

Adding to the talk page because in this section "places of interest", there seems to be some confusion between the city of New Iberia vs. the New Iberia Parish. I am noticing places like Joseph Jefferson House is listed, but this is not in New Iberia the city. This article is about the city. Joojay (talk) 19:35, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
