I took the liberty of adding the above BBC ref to Sinking of the RMS Lusitania and mentioning the gift of the lifeboat. Amy Lea Pearl was Audrey's mother. Images[edit]

Images of Forester and Ashley as seen on http://www.newquay-westwales.co.uk/lifeboat.htm would add significantly to the page. That site were able to use them, so they might have useable copyright. I have spoken to the Tourist office, in Aberaeron, as New Quay's is closed for the winter. They could not help immediately in sourcing the images as the site http://www.newquay-westwales.co.uk is private commercial site, and not the Council's. Nonetheless they are going to try to help find them. They also gave me the names of the three local papers. Daily is the Western Mail, and weekly are Cambrian News and Tivyside Advertiser. The pics may have come from their files. She also mentioned that New Quay lifeboat station had published a book this year. 150 yrs. I will try the private site next. I have now spoken to the operations manager at the station, Roger Couch, who is keen to help. He is actually meeting with Roger Bryan, the author of the book this afternoon. RB apparently has an archive of photos, but what their copyright status is I do not know. They will reply on this talk page. To editor SovalValtos: Not wanting to spend a disproportionate amount of time on this one, but when I've seen the book and discussed the contents with Roger (who has more photos) he or I could scan some and I could upload them to Commons (subject to copyright) for you to have a look as you have a better eye than I do. It is a gem. There is no photo of Forester/Nelson in the book but there is a photo (though not a very well-lit one) of a fully-rigged scale model "Nelson 1872" courtesy of Ceredigion County Museum, Aberystwyth. The model is on loan to the New Quay Heritage Centre so I will see if I can get a copyright-free photo of the model for WP. Tony Holkham (talk) 19:44, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Station or boathouse[edit]

In the History section, the page currently says "An inshore lifeboat and station was added in 1967 and in 1970..." etc. The source says "In 1967 the all-weather boat was supplemented by an inshore lifeboat station, with a D-class lifeboat." My question is does it really mean New Quay Lifeboat Station became two lifeboat stations? I think not and that the source was muddling boathouses with stations. Coordinates[edit]

To editor SovalValtos: Can you help? The coordinates for this station put it out at sea. The coordinates for New Quay are correct, but when I enter them in this article it doesn't seem to work. The page, and in particular the info box, do not respond to my usual simple changes. Therefore I will not press on and disrupt things I am ignorant of. Teahouse case? 52.213 -4.357 is appropriate for the station. I did not find the current coords out to sea, rather inland instead. Even without decent broadband I think you might find more modern computing a revelation, particularly with graphics. Please consider it. SovalValtos (talk) 22:59, 11 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

An obvious difference with this info box is that it is using degrees minutes seconds rather than British National Grid, and the coords above the info box uses the same, degs, mins, secs rather than the decimal you usually use in that position. Perhaps if you were to substitute an info box of the type you usually add might work? I know very little about computers as well. 15 years ago, I thought I knew 5%, 10 years 0.5% and now at best 0.05% Although iMacs have a reputation for being good with graphics they do need updating regularly which you may have to do yourself if it has not yet been set to occur automatically. Display in the browser (safari?) being sensitive. If yours has not been updated recently, it might take all night with your slow connection. Seems the x-y map locators are the thing. I changed those and on my screen the blob is now in the right place. The coords at the top of the page give the correct location when clicking and looking at OS. All a mystery to me, but I guess I'll learn. On the other point, I have upgraded my software as often as I can, but can't go any further without having to buy a newer version of Office for Mac. It is not just the software that needs updating, which given yours is still supported should be fine, but more the operating system and in particular safari. That is as far as I can go. There must be a huge number of techy editors around who would like to help. Some might have enough insight into the man-machine interface to actually be helpful. I finally understand that it was the blob map in the info box that was the concern. Please do not underestimate the level of intelligence of us other editors, and spell things out in detail (preferably 3 times) so it penetrates at least this thick scull. I have only just taken on board the fact that you clearly referred to the outline map locators rather than the other two places where co-ords are used in the info box, the places which I usually edit.
