Nowhere near enough content to justify a separate article. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 00:03, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unless a lot of expansion happens, both should probably be merged into KiwiRail. Nurg (talk) 09:24, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That would be fine by me. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 15:19, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The template Rail vehicles of New Zealand provides a comprehensive listing of self-propelled vehicles (and some locomotive-hauled carriages), by class, that have operated on rail in New Zealand since inception.
A merger under the umbrella of New Zealand rail maintenance equipment would make sense, with additional content involving ballast wagons, hi-rail vehicles, overhead inspection cars etc, in addition to the existing EM, EL and ETM classes. J.christianson (talk) 09:40, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The history of cranes goes much further than the current EL class rail cranes, and incorporates steam rail cranes that operated long before KiwiRail came into existence.
Silver Stream Railway maintains an NZR steam rail crane (No. 124) "https://www.silverstreamrailway.org.nz/locomotive/cranes-misc/steam-crane-no-124/"
Contributors within preservation groups can add a lot of historical content that would not be readily available through traditional processes. J.christianson (talk) 10:27, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If there are not reliable, independent, secondary sources which provide significant coverage of the subject New Zealand rail cranes, the contents of the rail cranes article need to be merged into another article. I'm not sure what Contributors within preservation groups can add a lot of historical content that would not be readily available through traditional processes means, but it does not mean that we can keep this article just because you say so. As I have said previously, I do not object to the merger between the rail cranes and rail maintenance equipment articles. In reference to contributors within the rail preservation scene, they have vast knowledge and can provide sources and information that have often been the source of articles in published rail magazines. Independent websites such as http://www.nzrcranes.org/survivors.html and https://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/cranes/cranesnz.htm provide much additional information on historical rail cranes used in New Zealand. I can't see the crane article expanding significantly enough to justify its own article, and I'm not sure how WP:NOTABLE it is anyway. Merging into the general rail maintenance equipment article makes sense to me. pcuser42 (talk) 01:28, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback from New Page Review process[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: It's a start. The proposed merge would add some sources and material to the article. Happy editing!
