Function section[edit]

The "Function" section is misleading and utterly biased on an agenda.

What does a blackout have to do with wastewater runoff? That the treatment plant was temporarily out of service? This would seem to be an argument in favor of the treatment plant, but it is framed as an indictment.

The wastewater overflow is claimed to be 300-million gallons/ day during the heaviest rain, while the plant can now handle 310-million gallons. This is a problem why exactly?

The "back-up facilities" required by the city couldn't have been based on water flow, but instead by electric generators to keep the plant operating. Perhaps this is true, but this is not an issue for NYC's water treatment, but its access to constant electric supply.

That the facility processes 18% of the city's wastewater is irrelevant. It is built to accommodate the east side of Manhattan and no more. Whether or not it should process more--and yes it probably should--is an ethical question, not a question of facts.

How the NYC sewer system was built to dump overflow into the waterways is also not the fault of the NCWWTP. This is a landmark for a very good reason. Ambassador.Ryan (talk) 00:41, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure many of the issues you raise are issues for Wikipedia. The sources say these things, do you have issues with the sources? You also say facts are irrelevant; this, in my opinion, is not the case. For a city with multiple WWTPs, it is interesting (and extremely relevant) to the reader how much wastewater is processed in a particular facility. You're also pontificating about the blackout's relevance. I agree it could be more clear, but the 1977 and 2003 blackouts affected the amount of sewage. Maybe improve the explanation?

If you have sources that present different takes, please add them. Or if you have specific grievance with sources in the article, state them on the talk. But if you just have opinions on how wastewater should be treated or whether complying with the Clean Water Act with a backup facility was done correctly or not, this is not the place to discuss them.
