Unreferenced statement[edit]

"Gentile had very good connections with well-known drug traffickers in Sicily such as Settecasi and Cinisi Bosses, Cesare Manzella and Gaetano Badalamenti who controlled Punta Raisi Airport outside of Palermo, especially after the important American-Sicilian mafia summit at Palermo's Grand Hotel des Palmes meeting in 1957." I cannot find any source mentioning this claim. If no reference is provided it will be removed. - Mafia Expert 09:00, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Date of death[edit]

The date given for Gentile's date of death (November 6, 1966) needs a source, especially since it is in contention. There is a magazine article from the 1970s that indicates he was still alive as of 1974. (RickM7x) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rickm7x (talkcontribs) 13:22, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Italian wiki it is 6 November 1976. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 18:41, 13 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Does the Italian wiki provide a source? It seems like it is the earlier incorrect date of November 6, 1966 plus ten years to compensate for the fact that he was still around in 1974.Rickm7x (talk) 08:59, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No, but it is the only one we have. That is why it is there so that anyone can see the source and assess the reliability themselves and not let you decide for them. - Mafia Expert (talk) 01:19, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are 16 other references for the article that are good. - Evenmoremotor (talk) 01:21, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Evenmoremotor[reply]

This is the only one about the date of his death. - Mafia Expert (talk) 01:37, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per communication with author of website www.lacndb.com he will remove date of death since it contradicts other previously published sources. Therefore there is no reason to continue using this date that is known to be false. RickW7x2 (talk) 23:23, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Self-published sources (online and paper)[edit]

Self-published sources (online and paper) Policy shortcut: WP:SPS

Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason self-published media, whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, Internet forum postings, etc., are largely not acceptable. Self-published material may, in some circumstances, be acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications. However, caution should be exercised when using such sources: if the information in question is really worth reporting, someone else is likely to have done so. Self-published sources should never be used as third-party sources about living persons, even if the author is a well-known professional researcher or writer; see WP:BLP#Reliable sources.
