Who wrote it?[edit]

Roosevelt Sykes performed (and claimed to have written) a song by this name in the 1930s, containing the line "The night time is the right time to be with the one you love". It's boogie woogie and far from identical to, say, the Ray Charles version. But perhaps it's an ancestor. Copprmax 04:50, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia listing is wrong. This is, indeed, the same song Roosevelt Sykes wrote and recorded for Decca in 1937 and again in 1938. Nappy Brown not originator[edit]

Roosevelt "The Honeydripper" Sykes recorded "Night Time Is The Right Time" April 29, 1937 (Decca 7324). In 1938, two more versions of the song were recorded. Big Bill Broonzy recorded it May 5, 1938 (Vocalion 04149/Conqueror 9073). Sykes recorded a second version "Night Time Is The Right Time #2" April or May 1938 (Decca 7438). Since Nappy Brown was born in 1929, he would have had to be eight years old when he wrote "Night Time Is The Right Time."

Ozzie Cadena, a producer at Nappy Brown's record label, is sometimes later credited as a composer of the song. Since Cadena was born in 1924, he would have had to be thirteen years old when he wrote the song. Lew Herman, aka Herman Lubinsky, also later often credited as a composer of "Night Time Is The Right Time," was the owner of Nappy Brown's record label.

That makes it sound as if the version on the 'Aretha Now' album might be different from the one on the boxed set.

Cosby Show[edit]

While I know we're moving away from the old bit of listing every place in pop culture where a song has appeared, the song did have a prominent place in an episode of The Cosby Show in which characters lip-synched to it as the centerpiece of the episode.
