I'm planning to review this article later this week.

@Sportsfan77777: I had thought about revieweing this myself so if I can be of any help in the review process feel free to ping me. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 00:55, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Sportsfan. Elcid.ruderico (talk) 21:59, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Elcid.ruderico: My first comment is that the 2017 sub-section is way too long. It's currently almost 1000 words; it should be cut down to low 600s at most. Some of the lesser awards and career accomplishments can probably be moved to the Awards and Accomplishments section if you don't want to just get rid of them.

Here are the rest of my comments:

Lead[edit]

  • If he was raised in Lake Forest, he is a native of Lake Forest, not Newport Beach
  • Specify that the Platinum Glove is fan-favorite award
  • Specify that the Fielding Bible and Wilson DPoY are sabermetric-based
  • Remove the Fielding Bible and Platinum Glove from the highlights in the infobox. (Those are not official awards; also a bit redundant)
  • and leads all major leaguers in RBI since the start of the 2015 season (add "through 2018").
  • Some instances of over-linking (WP:LEADLINK):
    • First sentence: American (common nationality)
    • his contributions as a hitter for power and average <<<=== The link to "average" doesn't make sense. ("Hitting for Power" isn't to "Power Hitter" as "Hitting for Average" is to "Batting Average")
    • In 2016, Arenado became the youngest player in Rockies franchise history to reach 100 home runs. <<<=== home runs (WP:REPEATLINK)

Early life[edit]

  • As a senior, Arenado batted .517, (add "with a" here) .615 on-base percentage (OBP), ...
  • Instead of in the next section, specify here that he decided to forgo college to play professionally.
  • Linking:
    • Don't link junior, senior, college baseball, or scholarship. (WP:COMMONWORDS)
    • Change the ASU link to the ASU baseball team.

Minors[edit]

  • He had actually manifested exceptional arm strength and soft hands; however, any potential dominance in that facet of the sport was neutralized with clearly inept footwork. <<<==== "soft hands" is MOS:JARGON; replace "facet of the sport" with some phrase with the word "defense"; "clearly" is not encyclopedic here
  • like Rickey Henderson ran the basepaths <<<==== get rid of this comparison
  • while relentlessly pushing himself to improve <<<==== WP:PEACOCK
  • a virtually unparalleled combination of explosive vigor <<<==== WP:PEACOCK
  • fluidly covered vast surface area <<<==== "surface area" is not a baseball term
  • breathtaking throws of long and short distances from the extent of statures of fully erect to almost totally laying down, to constantly deliver the unexpected out of the runner in nearly every position of the basepath <<<=== some WP:PEACOCK, but even without that, some parts of this sentence just sound strange
  • Arenado represented the Rockies at the 2011 All-Star Futures Game. His first-half totals included a .283 batting average with six home runs and 42 RBI. <<<==== Link these two sentences. (e.g. He made the Futures game after posing first-half totals of...)
  • No need for the combined 2011 stats (the AFL is separate)

2013–14[edit]

  • first home run versus Josh Wall ===> first home run off of pitcher Josh Wall
  • and slashed .267/.301/.405 ===> "slashed" is MOS:JARGON. Also, does WP:BASEBALL allow slash lines in the prose? I'm not familiar.
  • Arenado trailed only... ===> He trailed only...
  • Arenado tied for seventh place with Evan Gattis in the NL Rookie of the Year Award voting, behind Jedd Gyorko, Julio Teherán, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Shelby Miller, Yasiel Puig and winner José Fernández <<<==== Only mention who won and that he was received the most votes among 3B.
  • On May 23, Arenado suffered a mallet fracture ===> A few weeks later, Arenado suffered a mallet fracture (too many dates; see WP:PROSELINE)
  • He batted .545 (add "that week" here) with a 1.645 OPS
  • Mention that the Rockies finished in last in the NL West in 2013 and 4th in 2014.

2015[edit]

  • He had hit more home runs in road games than at Coors Field (15 to nine), more RBI (37 to 31) and posted higher on-base (.318 to .309) and slugging (.615 to .580) percentages. <<<==== Before this sentence, clarify that Coors is a hitter's park.
  • 323 OBP, .575 SLG, .898 OPS, 177 hits, 43 doubles and 13 intentional walks <<<=== Get rid of hits and IBBs.
  • He received official consideration for the NL MVP Award for the first time, ranking eighth in voting behind Harper, Paul Goldschmidt, Joey Votto, Anthony Rizzo, Andrew McCutchen, Jake Arrieta, and Zack Greinke <<<=== Only mention who won and that he was received the most votes among 3B.
  • Mention the Rockies finished in last again.

2016[edit]

  • He (add "also" here) carried an .852 SLG, led the NL with 23 total bases, and tied for second with seven runs scored.
  • 100th career home on run <<<=== typo
  • Overall, in 160 games, Arenado finished the year with a .294 batting average, 182 hits, 35 doubles, six triples, tied for the NL-leading 41 home runs with Chris Carter, 116 runs scored, an MLB-leading 133 RBI, 82 extra base hits, 352 total bases, 68 walks (double the amount from 2015), 10 intentional walks, a .362 OBP, a .570 SLG and a .932 OPS. <<<==== Mention that he led the NL in home runs before anything else. Get rid of triple, total bases, IBBs. Put OBP, SLG, OPS next to BA near the beginning.
  • Mention that the 75 wins and 3rd place finish were the Rockies' bests with Arenado

2017[edit]

  • Condense this section to less than 650 words. (WP:DETAIL)

2018[edit]

  • On April 21, Arenado hit his 150th career home run ===> In his first game back, Arenado hit his 150th career home run
  • (add "his" here) fourth selection overall

International[edit]

  • This section should be expanded.
  • Mention the pool finish.
  • Mention the semifinal result.
  • Mention what Arenado did in the WBC. Did he play? Did he start? Any big hits?

Player profile[edit]

  • catching the ball ===>>> catching line drives (???)
  • maintaining that ===>> maintaining those
  • As a hitter, Arenado has been recognized for developing into one of the top sluggers in the game by posting numbers among the best in the Majors in many crucial categories, including hits, batting average, slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs and extra base hits. <<<<==== These are two separate points. The first should say who recognized him. The second is just a supporting point.

Awards and accomplishments[edit]

  • If you are going to link each individual All-Star Game, you need to list all of them
  • The PoTY week dates are not so readable. Use a MM/DD/YYYY format.

Personal life[edit]

  • When asked who his favorite player is, Arenado named Adrián Beltré of the Texas Rangers, also a third baseman, and former Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday. ===>>>> Arenado's favorite players are fellow third basemen Adrián Beltré of the Texas Rangers and former Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday. (condense)
  • The length of this section is fine, but I'm surprised it's not longer.

Overall[edit]

Placing on hold. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 04:35, 21 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sportsfan77777 and Elcid.ruderico, any update on this? It doesn't look like any comments have been addressed and it has been on hold for three weeks. Cheers, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:08, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Gonzo_fan2007: Except for one edit, El Cid has not been on Wikipedia since I completed the review. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 16:44, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sportsfan77777, yeah I noticed that... hoping they come back soon to address this thorough review. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:59, 7 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sportsfan77777, I hate to say it, but I feel like this needs to get failed soon. No editing by the nominator on this page for almost a month, and its been on hold for 3 weeks. El Cid hasn't edited at all for 3 weeks now. If they do come back, they can renominate and will already have a good review to get started on. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 18:47, 11 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Gonzo_fan2007: What's the harm in leaving it open? El Cid did not get to choose when the article would be reviewed. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 20:58, September 11, 2018 (UTC)
Sportsfan77777 No harm, just trying to pair down the Sports and Rec backlog. I am still pretty new to reviewing GAs. How long would you usually leave a review open with no response from the nominator? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 04:20, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Gonzo_fan2007: It's not really part of the backlog if it's been reviewed. If a nominator was editing elsewhere on Wikipedia, I would add a message on their talk page asking when they planned on addressing the review. If they didn't reply while continuing to edit elsewhere, then I would consider failing the review. But if they are not on Wikipedia at all, then I would just wait until they come back, as they are probably just busy with their real life. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 04:59, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sportsfan77777 I have done some of it but have left the rest to the nominators. Animation is developing 04:40, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help! Sportsfan77777 (talk) 06:49, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Failing GA nomination due to the nominator's inactivity on Wikipedia. If this article is renominated (with the above points addressed), I'll review it again. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 04:19, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Should we place active player on the Cardinals due to debut[edit]

I believe that we should because of Wikipedia’s rules involving athletes in leagues other than Baseball. Even if we have to put an asterisk next to it.

Because officially that is an MLB game on the record. Spongehog (talk) 07:01, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
