Norfolk ParakeetNorfolk Island Green Parrot — To the more descriptive name of the parrot. Snowman (talk) 12:12, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Note: After a long discussion at Wikiproject birds a motion was passed 10 to 2 that the IOC name "should be the default position, and that in the cases of no consensus, the name should be at IOC name (that is, for a species to remain at a non-IOC name, there has to be a clear consensus)". This is in line with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (fauna)#Article title that "If the article is about an animal belonging to a group where Wikipedia editors have agreed on a standard for choosing among two or more common names, follow that standard". -- Kim van der Linde at venus 14:22, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose[edit]

  1. IOC-names.-- Kim van der Linde at venus 14:22, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Dumbest suggestion yet. The species name proposed was an interim one only used for the last few years. The issue about descriptiveness is a non-issue, lots of birds have names that don't tell the whole story of the species. There are no other parakeets on Norfolk, thus the name is descriptive enough. The Aussies now call this species the Tasman Parakeet which if you must move it to would be a better one. Sabine's Sunbird talk 19:17, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

I would be happy to withdraw the name move, based on the good argument by User Sabine's Sunbird. Snowman (talk) 20:44, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
