To Have Been The Former[edit]

I understand that articles about people who have passed on to the afterlife describe them such: "x was the y"; also, article about people whose function which made them article-worthy in first place is a former function are described as "x is a former y" (e.g. athlete). In the opening paragraph of this article, there is the combination "was the former": I understand that this means that he has passed on, but also that he was retired before he passed on, because I'm familiar with customary WP expressions. However, I think it's a little misleading when read at face-value (He isn't the former chairman anymore? Maybe he is the chairman again?), and also quite uncommon. I think normally, articles are reverted from "is the former y" to "was y" at the person's death. Don Ecchi (talk) 08:29, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
