When did the former Province of North Carolina designate itself a "state"?[edit]

Earlier editions of this article referred to NC several times as as "state", when of course that term was not in use in the colonial period. For example, even though the article says that independence from Britain was declared at the Fourth Provincial Congress, the article use the word "state" in the paragraph on the *Third* congress. That must be wrong. But it's possible that the designation "state" was adopted at the fourth congress of the fifth congress. What do you know, the Wiki article, History of North Carolina has nothing to say about this chronology. This needs to be looked up and put into articles about NC.
