I am aware of (although probably not very well acquainted with) the controversies surrounding the naming of the country that this team represents. However, the undeniable fact, unplatable as it might be to many, is that FIFA refer to this national side as Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Should Wikipedia not do likewise? How the team is referred to by the governing bodies of world and European football[edit]

Look at this. This is the team's profile at the official website of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, better known as FIFA, the federation that governs world football. Now look at this. This is the team's profile at the official website of the Union of European Football Associations, or UEFA, which is FIFA's analogue for Europe. The country this team represents is a member of both FIFA and UEFA. And as one can see opening those links, both FIFA and UEFA refer to this team as nothing else than FYR Macedonia, FYR of Macedonia or former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. And if one searches the above websites for the word "Macedonia" (fifa.com, uefa.com), one will see that in all search results this word is preceded by "FYR", without even a single exeption. So one can easily conclude that according to FIFA and UEFA, a team called "Macedonia national football team" does not exist. There exists a team called "FYR Macedonia national football team". For that reason, the title of this article should read FYR Macedonia national football team. So I request that it be moved. And finally, I consider I should say that I am not a Greek, not even a Cypriot. --88.203.248.161 (talk) 21:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. Wikipedia is there to be accurate and this is inaccurate, as it is not the official name. This is Mkbw50 signing out! 20:53, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will move the page in 24 hours if nobody objects. This is Mkbw50 signing out! 20:53, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Kosovo national football team doesn't exist according to UEFA either, but we still have an article for it. And we don't decide article titles based on what certain organizations call them (i.e. it's Republic of Macedonia not former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia despite the latter being the name used by the UN). --Local hero talk 01:35, 15 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The Palestinian territories is what the UN calls them, but they want to be called Palestine. The football team represents "Russia" not the "Russian Federation". In the Olympics, the "United Kingdom" team is "Great Britain". All Wikipedia articles have the official names. This is Mkbw50 signing out! 16:32, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see your point. And there has been no clear consensus established here in favor of moving the article, so I don't know why you've done it. --Local hero talk 22:00, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

All-time record[edit]

Hi everyone, i added macedonia's all-time record, similar to the one of the England national football team. I hope you like it :) i'm sure everything is right now, but if you like see if i made everything correct (goals etc.). number of games are definitely correct since they're on the Football Federation's web site. Habel (talk) 16:15, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All-time record[edit]

The site [http://www.eloratings.net/] states 154 international matches for Macedonia. Our table gives 156 matches. Which is correct? Miho (talk) 18:46, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Other notable players?[edit]

This section can´t continue to be managed the way it has been until here. It should have a clear inclusion criterium (exemple: listing ALL players who played this year), because the way it has been managed until is a POV cause particular editors choose which players they consider "notable" and which don´t, all without any valid criterium. The word notable is not encyclopedic in a sense that it doesn´t specify what it means: notable to who? why? etc. That is why I removed it from the section title. I propose we replace this section whith some inclusion criterium such as listing all players recently called, and by recently we also have to have a clear time period, exemple, since beggining of year. FkpCascais (talk) 19:45, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The 'current squad' section should be a sub-section of 'Players' (or similar name) so the structure makes sense. The other section should add the word recent to its title. At the moment this section has text stating that it should be over the past year - perhaps this should be tightened to say 12 months?Eldumpo (talk) 20:27, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, my idea was to do it as it is donne in most other NT articles (England for exemple). But, seems to me that Maklion19 is still adding, or removing, players from that list because he wants to have 5 per each position, and not because they played during last 12 months... The reasons of his are still wrong and do not follow any criteriums (for instance, when he adds one player "to make them 5" in his words, why he adds that specific one? Why not another one? Why 5? Maklion seems to not understand what an inclusion criterium is, and he adds, or removes, players by his preference (more caps, I supose, but no one knows...). FkpCascais (talk) 20:44, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The England article follows what I was saying about heading structure. There should be a higher level heading called squad/players.
If he is Iisting the last 5 (previous) call-ups for each position, that is arbitrary, but perhaps no more so than the 12 months criteria. If he is not including the most recent 5 then I agree that is not appropriate.Eldumpo (talk) 21:12, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I made the edit doing things as I supose it would be right: [1]. Now, adding, or removing, players that fit the inclusion criterium from the "Recent callups" section with the excuse of wanting to have 5 per each position, or whatever other personal reason, would be wrong, right? FkpCascais (talk) 01:08, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your edit. It's good but I made a minor change. Listing call-ups within the last 12 months does seem a bit more logical. One of the problems with listing 5 per position is that it will go too far back for goalkeepers, and maybe not far enough for midfielders. Perhaps the intro text should say what match is the cut-off game for inclusion i.e. It may be 10-14 months depending on last game played? Regards.Eldumpo (talk) 07:07, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
May I suggest you use the {{nat fs r player}} series templates (as used on the England page) for the recent players list and list their last appearance; that way you can keep the list current to the inclusion criteria easier. --ClubOranjeT 09:42, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move to "North Macedonia national football team"?[edit]

With the Prespa Agreement to change the country's name to North Macedonia being ratified today, surely the sports teams should be moved to North Macedonia national football team etc.? VampireKilla (talk) 16:33, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Probably should be done only once the team starts using that name in competition. For example, West Germany and Yugoslavia football teams continued for a while even after the countries had dissolved - N Macedonia might wait until Euro 2020 to make the switch Sheila1988 (talk) 20:14, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
