Criticism:

  • OC Transpo has recently placed the name of bus pass users on their ID passes. If a user covers over their name they have commited a municipal offense, and are subject to a fine ($35-$45?).
  • The bus pass ID states: Use of invalid or tampered Photo ID is an offence. Misused Photo ID may be confiscated with a provincial offence notice (ticket) issued.
  • Fare inspectors regularly patrol POP (Proof of Payment) buses and request to see bus passes.
  • Some buses are now monitored by camera. It is unknown if these record the names of people who get on buses with bus passes.
  • The OC Transpo transit union had demanded the city of Ottawa to boost securit mesures inside buses, due to various incidents and attacks between passagers or even drivers. As most recently, on September 20, an altercation between several passengers resulted in the stabbing death of a 23-year old man inside OC Transpo Route 118. The area of Lincoln Heights and Bayshore also had a history of incidents inside buses. Other incidents occured inside transit stations such as South Keys, Lincoln Fields, Place d'Orleans and Bayshore.
