couple of buildings pre this firm.[edit]

i have removed the following two buildings from the significant buildings section:

  • 1874: Former Methodist Church, Church Street, Fitzroy North (note: Terry and Oakden design)[1]
  • 1875: former Australia and New Zealand Bank building, Alma Road, Camberwell, Boroondara (note: Terry and Oakden design)[2]

as they belong in a separate article on the earlier partnership/firm of Terry and Oakden and/or an article on Oakden. Coolabahapple (talk) 16:51, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, if these other articles exist, then yes, put those buildings there. But if not, I would be inclined to leave them in the current article but note clearly that they were from the earlier incarnation of the firm. It’s always a bit tricky with these architectural firms who change names every few years as partners are added and subtracted. It’s hard to decide whether to have separate articles or to see them as a single business with changing names. If there is no obvious major mergers or splits, I generally try for one article that lists all the variant names and gives the history of the partners as they are added and subtracted . hi Kerry, thanks for that, i originally put them into the article then thought oops, they predate this firm's partnership so may not be appropriate to include, i will reinstate them (is the little "note: Terry and Oakden design" okay?), along with including some more to show that examples of the firm's designs/builds occur throughout victoria. I think it is OK. It might have been better if the History mentioned that it was Terry and Oakden previously. Then you could split the significant works into subheading for different eras of partnership. Kerry (talk) 04:51, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done:), talk about a wikieditor rabbit hole!, am i right in thinking that most, if not all, of these buildings could have articles in their own right, let alone some of the owners (and builders?) ie. Thomas Gaggin ("Gaggin held the post of 'accountant to the Treasurer the second most senior position in the treasury, during the late 1800s and early 1900s, serving through the period of the country's major economic recession. He served under such ministers as Sir George Turner, succeeding G.T. Allen in this role.") (now if only we had 72hours in the day...:)) Coolabahapple (talk) 16:52, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to the rabbithole, I’m somewhere further down in it looking back up :-) yes, you are right. A quick search on the Victorian Heritage Register (which means it’s notable for Wikipedia) reveals Oakden is associated with 25 heritage properties, so yes, one thing leads to 2 things, then to 5 things, and ... Coolabahapple - tends to be the way with these! The Drover's Wife (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
